Title: Anyplace have reasonable priced Blue Cubes?
Post by: Pixel_Outlaw on Thu, 15 July 2010, 15:21:08
I'm just wondering who the most affordable seller of the blue cube converters is. For a cheap Chinese converter they seem costly, even on eBay. I need it for my Model M, so the passive ones are not an option.

9 bucks seems like a reasonable price.

Can anyone point out a current eBay listing? I'm not seeing any...

I'd like one for 5 bucks with 3 dollar shipping to be honest. Yes, eBay used to have them now they are virtually nonexistent. I mistakenly ordered those crazy passive cables and they didn't work at all.

Well, they do work, but only with supporting devices.

I fired off a message to the former eBay seller of the blue cubes asking if there are plans to restock. Hopefully they still have them but simply forgot to relist.

Try this:
http://cgi.ebay.com/USB-2-0-PS-2-Adapter-Mouse-Multimedia-Keyboard-/320411446535?cmd=ViewItem&pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item4a9a02ad07#ht_3922wt_788
I have used this adapter from multiple different sellers and I could not get it to fail on any keyboard.

Well, I had one that was similar but the mighty M did not like it at all. The keyboard was not even recognized! Did you test it on an IBM?

I've had that black adapter twice, and once it failed physically, and once it failed electronically. It used to work on all my keyboards and now it works on only my M13 (not my M, oddly). I'll never give a third chance.

That one looks like a Bytecc BT-2000. I had one once, it had that key release issue, then it died.

Only adapters worth buying are is the Belkin and the Blue Cube. The Belkin is better, but it's more expensive.

I recently had a catalogue from CPC (cpc.farnell.com (http://cpc.farnell.com)) and in there was something that looked suspiciously like a blue cube, for £2.34 iirc.  Only flicked past it so I may be wrong, but it's worth a look if you're in the UK...

EDIT: here (http://cpc.farnell.com/pro-signal/usb-0044s/usb-to-single-ps-2-adaptor/dp/CS12021), £4.57.  Rather expensive, I guess...  I'll see if that catalogue is still laying around, might have been a special offer.

Good news, cablestar on eBay responded that they're still waiting on new stock and will carry them again. Their supplier is dragging its heels apparently.
