I have decided I want a white HHKB pro 2 but black blank key caps, and I am not sure what the best way of buying this is.
Is there a more cost efficient way to buy this other than buying a white HHKB (http://elitekeyboards.com/products.php?sub=pfu_keyboards,hhkbpro2&pid=pdkb400w) along with a new set of blank black keycaps (http://elitekeyboards.com/products.php?sub=access,keycaps&pid=pdkb400ktbn)? Does anyone sell the board with keycaps of your choice?

You might want to ask that question in the vendor forums (http://geekhack.org/forumdisplay.php?f=51) here.
Probably by starting with EliteKeyboards (http://geekhack.org/forumdisplay.php?f=52).

Probably not. Someone would have to manually exchange the caps themselves. I doubt demand is big enough for the manufacturer to sell them like that.
-
My guess is probably not as well. Gotta pay to play I suppose
It does look cool in the end though

Well, I am not sure paying an extra $70 is worth it just for the looks....
But I do love the looks.

When it's time to replace the keycaps, then go for the looks. The question is how long will that be?

I haven't tried replacing my kecaps yet, I have a Dvorak set and a blank set and they came in these felt bags. I totally understand Dvorak in a felt bag but how do I know which keys go where with the blank ones?

Look at their profiles from the side and line them up. They often come in a tray pre-laid out. Also, they usually have a code on the back indicating their profile or row position.

When I clean my HHKBP2, I do exactly that to figure out where the keys go after cleaning (blanks).

Thanks! I haven't looked at the keycap sets in a while. I could be making this up completely.
