Title: BTC 5140 PS2 issue?

I just received an old used BTC 5140 and when I plugged it in nothing happened. Doing a bit of research, I corrected my PS2 port in regedit and restarted the computer. Keyboard numlock light came on and caps lock light blinked but still no signal being sent.

Numlock light and all lights are locked meaning when I press caps lock nothing happens and the light doesn't come on. Pressing numlock doesn't make light go out.

Motherboard is Asus Z97-A if it helps. Thanks in advance!

You did plug it in when the computer was switched off, did you not?

The first time I plugged in with computer on. No lights  Then realizing, I immediately restarted. The caps lock light flashed and num lock light came on and stayed on.

Modified regedit for PS2 port, restarted again.

well on modern boards nothing will happen to anything if you hotplug it, it may even work. but on older boards it was actually kill the motherboard's controller or the one in the keyboard, so maybe try accessing bios (or boot a linux), if you can then the problem is on windows, if you can't then you may have damaged something, at least the light coming on should tell that it manages to initialize so i would bet that the issue is on windows, or that the board never actually worked. still good troubleshooting :)

Update. I am currently typing on the keyboard. Success!!

Thanks for the information regarding PS/2. This is the first time I've used PS/2 in probably 15 years. Guess I need to slow down and do my diligence.

After several reboots, I still had no success. Found a decent number of posts complaining about it being Windows 10 issue but then again this board was never verified to be working so I figured it was a done deal. Then I found a post saying not only should the computer be off when you plug into it but the power should be switched off (or unplugged) as some motherboards still allow power through the ports when it's powered off but still plugged in. I switched off the PSU, plugged in the board, booted, and everything works flawlessly now.
