Title: Cherry Tools Designer crashes
Post by: eleanor296 on Wed, 21 July 2010, 19:53:45
hey guys,

I just got my G80-8113, and I'll post a review later, but first of all I have a problem with it:  I can't get the Designer to program my keys, it crashes every time I try to activate a layout or try to give a key a software function.  Any idea why?  I got the newest version of the program, and I'm on Windows 7.

Thanks guys!

Some programs are a little flooky on Windows 7. If you've got an XP machine, I'd try it on that and see if it works there. If it does then you know what the problem is.

Run it in compatibility mode for XP, and run it as admin. Compatibility mode is selected within the properties dialogue (I think for the EXE itself, not the shortcut), and running as admin is in the context menu when you right click on the shortcut or EXE.

tried that too, no dice.

Did you install it from CD? I would recommend trying the cherry website for updated software.

Are you running 64 bit or 32 bit Windows?

64 bit, I'ts Win7 Ultimate, I installed it from the website.  I'll try that Win XP mode and report back.

Edit:  Wait... so the website isn't being completely clear on it, but it's basically nothing more than installing a virtualized image of XP?  So I'd have to install the program within the XP image again?  Ugh.

Edit:  Nvm, the Wiki is pretty good if anyone else is interested:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Windows_Virtual_PC
It'll basically integrate it so that it looks like you're running it straight from the main desktop, but it's still a VM.

By the way, the Cherry website says that the software should work with Win7.
