Title: An introduction
Post by: Stone on Fri, 23 July 2010, 11:14:13
Hello all. I've been lurking here for a fair while so I thought I might as well join in :) My name's Nick, I live in the UK, and I'm mostly an electronics geek but with a special appreciation for awesome input devices due to RSI.

So far the progression has gone:
crappy rubberdome (many)
Cherry space-saver
Model M (x2 - a love that lasted around 4 years until my wrists exploded)
Generic ergo board
Ergo board + Belkin Nostromo n52
Top case from a Macbook with a USB cable soldered on (an unwise experiment...)
Goldtouch (icky squishy feel but more comfy wrist position)
Datahand :bounce:

My current work setup is the Datahand with a Evoluent VerticalMouse (http://www.evoluent.com/vm3.html) and a Griffin Powermate (http://www.griffintechnology.com/products/powermate) for scrolling. Finally no hand pain :D

So, hello, if you have any Datahand questions do ask!

I know the keyboard you need.

If you sell off your house, maybe you can get one.

Where so you live where property values are that low?  Detroit?

I'll let my parents know.

Wow, that looks terrible. You need a good whack of tenting to go with the radial deviation or you end up even less comfortable than a normal board, it's one of the reasons I didn't get on with the Goldtouch. Nice duplication of arrow keys, though.

I think I'll pass. It's going to have to be pretty full of awesome to make me give up the Datahand...

(ps: thanks for the hellos)

That M15 keyboard is actually one of the most sought-after ergonomic keyboards. It's got the same keyswitches as a Model M and is also one of the most adjustable split keyboards ever made.

Aha, thanks for that pic. I thought from the first one it was only adjustable in the one plane, that looks a lot better! My bad

As much as I love the Model M's keyswitches I had to stop using it as it was too painful on my MCPs (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Metacarpophalangeal_joint), I only really use low-force boards now. Both my Ms are in storage, I think one of them needs a new controller PCB too (it had a run-in with a rogue pass-through swipecard reader...) I found them to be raked quite excessively too, I'm no fan of negative tilt but it didn't really suit me - there's a lot of hand movement with your wrists in flexion and it was asking for trouble really. Hopefully once my Cleankeys (http://www.cleankeys.co.uk) arrives I'll be able to type in reasonable comfort...

If you're looking for low-force keyswitches, I would definitely recommend looking into brown Cherry keyswitches.
