Welcome to KAT PBJ, my passion project for the last few months! I was inspired to create my own keycap set that was as authentic to my own self as possible, and I strongly believe in never taking life too seriously. Embracing your inner child and finding the fun things in life doesn't ever have to go away, so I wanted to create something that reminded people of their childhoods and give cozy after-school snack vibes. Nothing evokes that feeling like a peanut butter and jelly sandwich cut in triangles, a cold glass of milk, and your favorite cartoon playing in the background.

Cute set! I love the lowercase legends.

I'm not keen on the accent kits being blank, but the novelties are so cool ;) Exciting to see someone taking advantage of dye sub to use so many colours.

I've said this in an IC form response but thought I'd post here too:

Numpad kit would be better with proper 1800 support rather than R5 blanks - see KAT Lich for example (3 more keys than current, and would provide correct colouring)
Any chance of an additional R3 up arrow? It's far from required, but it's something I personally added for my set as it adds comfort, and it's appeared in some sets since (Drifter, Space Cadet, Arctic, Hyperfuse, Iron, Monochrome).

I'll definitely be keeping an eye on this one, GLWIC!

this is such a well organised ic, and I love the honey accent. not usually a fan of KAT sets, but I might get this. I'd definitely like to see a blank mods kit, might complement the soft colours and shapes of the set better than text/icon mods, and maybe some additional novelties with a simpler outline/less colours, but otherwise this is perfect. glwgb!

Initial response from the IC form has been great, but there have been a few concerns and suggestions that I'd like to address. Here is a short summary:

The legends need more contrast / are too light

In part, this was an intentional design decision, however I didn't consider that it might be a genuine problem for legibility for some users. I am going to be looking into a new Alphas Legend color that is a bit darker to improve clarity and contrast, while still retaining a soft/pastel feel. This will require entirely new renders and will likely take a little while to decide on and update. I will also be updating the base alphas color (in the renders, not the pantone) to better match the color they will be on the actual keys when I do this.
I wanted to wait until I received samples to make any drastic changes to the overall set, but it's been pretty clear from the responses so far that this is something a lot of folks aren't a fan of. I'd appreciate any more opinions on this, and I will also be posting a poll in the PBJ Discord server (https://discord.gg/YVZDcQn) soon to get a clearer idea of the general consensus!

I will definitely be updating the Numpad kit for better 1800 support, this was largely an oversight on my part! This should also be done by the next major update.
Adding a R3 up arrow should also be doable, and will be updated alongside the Numpad!

The overall response from Day 1 of the Interest check has been overwhelmingly positive and I am extremely glad that PBJ is something people are excited about. Thank you all for your feedback so far!

Small update!

Regarding updating the Alphas legend color:
After a poll in the PBJ Discord server, an overwhelming majority voted against the change to darker legends. If this consensus changes in the future I will definitely consider changing them, but for the time being, it seems like most folks prefer the current color and pastel tone.

I struggled to find a font that matched the latin font, but I think I landed on a fitting one! Let me know what you think, as well as if there are any issues I may not be aware of with the kit itself.

Hiragana & Katakana Alphas have received a font update!
While creating the Cyrillic kit I realized the fonts for the Hiragana and Katakana kits did not match the latin font at all. They have been changed to a font I really like that keeps the smooth round look. Again, please let me know what you think!

In other news, I am pleased to announce that KAT PBJ will be collaborating with LuxeCables to bring custom coiled cables for each accent kit!

Nice-looking set! It's a great idea to have four different accent color options.

Regarding the Colevrak kit, I think there's a small mistake in Row 3: "J" is in twice and "C" is missing.

In addition, please consider expanding the kit to support additional layouts:

Hey all! Small update (copied from the discord announcement today):

Depending on what quotes I get from Keyreative, I am considering making full recolor novelty kits (instead of minor novelties as part of the accent kits).
This was a pretty common concern/point of confusion in the IC form responses and one of my main goals for this set was for it to be easy to digest (ha) and not overwhelming to choose your kits like some KAT sets in the past have been.
Splitting the novelties and accents into 4 kits each will increase the number of kits, but offer better flexibility and fuller options for you guys.

If I do go this route, it will require some of the novelties to be adjusted (for example, changing the jelly jar to have a strawberry/blackberry/etc, instead of a grape for their respective colors) so it may take some time.

I will not be going forward with this until I hear back from Keyreative regarding the novelty production process though, so that no time or effort goes to waste if something needs fundamentally changed for production.

Thanks for your patience! I hope to have information for you guys on quotes or at least some update from Keyreative soon enough.

Hey all! Sorry for the lack of progress so far on this!

I am currently in my final month of University and will be graduating just before Christmas, so I haven't had a ton of free time to work on things. I am also still waiting to hear back from Keyreative regarding samples and dye sub capabilities for the novelties, so I haven't been able to do much. Once I finish school I will be working on fixing up the kits (expanding Colevrak, making Ergo better and not just all blanks, etc) and redoing many, if not all of the renders.

I've been working hard to get better at rendering (all of the current renders were done by me and will continue to be done by me) and I'm not super happy with most of them anymore, so I hope to have renders I'm more happy with soon! I have finally graduated university - so I will have more time to work on things again!

Still waiting to hear back from the manufacturer regarding samples, communication seems to be pretty backed up so we've just been sitting on our hands for now. I will post as soon as we get some updates!

Happy to hear you like the set! Currently still TBD on which switch will be which, but it seems like a lot of people have a similar opinion from instagram polls and IC form responses!

I am definitely going to be having a metal artisan keycap, but I don't think it will be RAMA... it's still TBD but I think you guys will be very excited about it if if and when I can share more info :)

Hey guys, sorry for the lack of updates recently. Getting in touch with manu has been rather difficult recently thanks to the holidays and CNY.

Additionally, Keyreative has made a post regarding the future of KAT sets which goes over their new production methods, machines, and the possibility of double shot molding here: https://en.zfrontier.com/blogs/project-updates/202101-kat

However, it's unclear if any of this will apply to KAT PBJ or affect it in any way. We're doing our best to understand what this means for PBJ, and I'll update here as soon as we get more information. I have high hopes, but for now we can't tell for sure until we hear back.

Hey all, just popping in since I still believe "no updates" is better than no updates, so I'm here to tell you... no updates.
The last info we received was that samples were in progress but I don't even know what the samples are of, or if/when I will be receiving them, and that was an update as of several months ago with no further contact with the manu ever since.
I wish I had more info to give you guys, but for now I'm just stuck sitting on my hands really.

We finally got pics of the samples! After a long and arduous YEAR since IC dropped, we finally got our first proof of life for PBJ.

While I have not received these in person yet, I wanted to share the photo I received with you all.
Keep in mind these may look completely different in person, so we will have to wait until I have them on hand to check the colors for accuracy and to see if they fit well together. I'll be showing them off on my twitch channel and will post a link here when I receive them. This is a photo I received directly from Keyreative and I did not modify or edit it in any way.

Colors aside, the novelties came out amazing and I'm so happy they were able to recreate them so vibrantly and cleanly. I was worried they'd come out dull or too small, but these look amazing.

Lastly, now that I know the set will actually be made... I will be updating the kitting soon! Stay tuned!

If I had any complaints, I guess it’d be the lack of 1.5u novelties across kits? I don’t have any 1.25u keys so it would be a shame that I can’t use all my favourite novelties on 1.5u keys... likely too late to update kits now though so I’ll cope. But there are quite a few 65s and Alices which have 3-4 1.5u keys on the bottom row and don’t use 1.25u also? Just my two cents.

The samples look good so far. The line colour of the grape/base novelties seems darker than intended, but I kinda struggle to see pastels (F tier vision) so I love them hahha. Hope they reach you soon so you can make the changes you’d like!

Not 100% sure I understand what you're referring to - there are two 1.5u novelties in each Accent kit / novelty kit! Let me know if that's not what you meant as I'm not super sure I am following. Did you just want more 1.5us in total?

As for kitting changes, please rest assured I will be updating the kitting to be a bit more palatable for GB. None of the kit information has been confirmed as of yet so I'll definitely be working on some updates for it!
That being said, it'll likely be done in AI files rather than renders as I simply don't have the time to format out and render a few dozen kits these days.

Color changes may also happen once I receive samples - I'll talk about them on stream!

The samples are expected to arrive early next week, so I'll probably be going over them soon!

A few notes:

- They didn't send me a cap for the alphas (bread) color, but they did match it on the text and novelties. it looks pretty good from what I can tell but I will be asking for a sample just to be safe

- They also didn't send any samples of the Honey accent color. I'll be asking for this as well

- the Grape color is matched well but not what I was hoping for. It's overall too pastel and doesn't fit well. I'll be choosing a new color and requesting this new sample with the others

- Overall they came out amazing! I love all of the other colors so far and I don't think we'll need to change any of the others. The novelty placement needs work but they didn't have any guidance in that regard yet so this should be fixed for the future.

Ok, this might be a very silly question but: I joined the Discord and, in order to access the channels, I’m supposed to react to the message with the rules… but I can’t react to the message? (When I tap on the thumbs up emoji, the number goes up and down again as if reacting to the message was disabled).

Is it broken, or did I fail the “I’m not a robot” test?
