Title: Roccat Arvo (I like the concept)

Just saw a picture of this gaming keyboard this morning.

The blending of numpad + keypad = amazing.
Yes I've seen older keyboards throwing away the keypad (Apple Keyboard II?) but retaining the keypad functionality is ingenious!

Was amazed at how simple the engineers thought of the solution to reduce the extra keyboard space and keeping the keypad and numpad functioning!
(or maybe someone else did, the closest I could think of are the Cherry Brown SPOSes? Still not quite as short as the Roccat Arvo)

Why not a Topre/Filco "keypadless" keyboard instead, taking cue from these guys? That would be awesome for those WHO still need the numpad but do not need to game too much with the numpads.

There was a thread about this layout. Also, I think Razer's new Starcraft II keyboard has a similar setup. I think it's cool too. On the Steelseries 6Gv2 (the mechanical keyboard I use), there's a Steelseries key in place of the left Windows key that if you hold down, transforms F1 to F6 into media keys.

I can imagine holding the Steelseries key down to transform the keypad into the numpad like in the Arvo picture:

The design of the numpad reminded me of the Razer Maurader keyboard, because both have the arrow keys integrated into the num pad. But this seems like a much better design.

When I first saw this keyboard posted a few months back I really liked the layout and always wanted to make a mod similar to it. Now thanks to hoggy's stock of Access POS boards it finally became possible. Inspired by this post today I finally went on and tried to put the layout together. So here goes, Access POS meets Roccat meets Cherry 1800 layout:

So far it seems pretty useable.

Those arrow keys are awesome.. and I like how the alpha keys are a darker shade than the surrounding keys, usually it's the other way around.

Sorry for reposting about the same topic but I did try a search for Roccat Arvo and didn't find anything similar so I decided to start a new topic. Sorry to bore those who found it repetitive.

Actually I did some key swapping here, both the alpha keys and arrow keys are from an ancient (but NIB!) WYSE-80 terminal board.

FKB100M/NB (http://209.85.135.104/translate_c?hl=en&langpair=ja%7Cen&u=http://www.diatec.co.jp/products/det.php%3Fprod_c%3D395)  discontinued - not a bad board, but poorer quality than Cherry.  Otherwise consider a Cherry G80-1800 or it's derivatives.

Bad move IMO killing that board, I would have had one.

...and Sixty good shot with the Access board, I have been looking at it thinking about layouts, but you seem to have hit on a great one.

Another thought was about moving the arrow keys over one space and making the big Zero key into a single.

The 'F AT obviously hasn't got thumb keys, the numpad can't send dedicated cursor scancodes (cursed be GTA EFLC) and it is by no means compact (or does the roccat use oversize keys to make up for it?)

Apart from that, it's the best heavy-throw clicky keyboard of course.

I think it'd be better if there was no numpad at all. If you want to use this for, lets say, spreadsheets with lots of numbers, you simultaneously need the numpad and the arrow keys.

I actually dislike that layout as my hands feel cramped and unnatural on the keyboard (if i used both my hands for gaming, like racing games)

I think the keyboard is targeted at gamers so no conflicts there :D
