Title: Case recommendations
Post by: InShure on Wed, 11 November 2020, 10:34:49
Hello all!

I'm relatively new to the Custom Keyboard scene and want to build an elegant board, with-out spending over 1000$ just on the case.

I need recommendations on cases, i am a huge fan of TKL boards (will also enjoy 75%)
I like the aesthetics of the KeyCult No1/No2 boards and also love the aesthetic of Polaris ai65 boards too..i like the black aluminum and brass on the back/sides

I know these are hard to come by, but what boards would resemble this look and might be available (soon/now) in tkl/75%

You won’t find anything that cool looking that is available now. Your best option is to check out some of the TKL group buys that are coming up. Alternatively, Amazon, Ali express and WASD have some CNC cases that you can put on the cooler master, Filco and WASD boards. Drop also has some aluminum cases available and there are some in a few other places you just have to search around.

How can i keep track of Group Buy's?
And when can i know when they are coming up?

I don't mind waiting for the right board/aesthetic, but i want to be sure to know how to keep track of them..

Keeping track of group buys, at the moment, is all manual.

Check out the GB section to see what hasn't officially started yet, read through and see how each vendor/designer updates their stuff.

honestly, if you are interested in building a kb sooner rather than later, getting a TOFU 65% from KBD fans is prob a good way to get in and familiar with messing around with boards before you drop serious money and commit to a long wait time for a group buy.

The bella is available. It's not a TKL but it's still a pretty nice looking board.

Let us know what you end up doing.  :thumb:

I was looking at the bella :( but sadly everything is sold out on KBDFans...
Sad.

However i'm thinking of maybe buying a KBDFans 75V2 As you said to "test the waters"

I messed around with a Drop Ctrl keyboard (lubed stabs/switches) but i'm kinda upset about that purchase since it has some pretty annoying problems with it...

I think the 75% format isn't tooooo ugly..plus i can get a brass plate for the bottom

Your best bet is probably to do a little bit more research into what you want, instead of spending potentially hundreds of dollars to "test the waters".

Stick around, research what it is in a keyboard that interests you, see what's available, and join a group buy when you're nice and ready. The hobby isn't going anywhere, and new cool things are designed every month.

Enjoy your time here

I really appreciate this feedback..

You're right about waiting until i have full and ready to join a group buy..
I know what i am looking for in a keybaord, i definitely want a brass bottom insert, brass plate, and aluminum body, solder pcb and preferably TKL lay out (or a nice looking 75% would be nice for me too)

Guess i would just wait for a nice 75%/TKL to be available
 Thank you!!
