Neither did Tp4...  couldn't even get the 6800...  There are rumors that 6900 in the channel.

i tried this morning too. it was definitely doable but i flubbed checking the wrong sites. i figured out newegg business has been stocking small amounts of rtx series multiple times a day and i'm going to try my best to snipe a 3070 or similar.

well if you do that you most definitely will not get a card, for sure not the solution for this problem, if you are ready to die for one maybe go and break in at a scalper's and steal a few :)

local computer store has a waitlist for the new rtx cards and it looks pretty reasonable. signed up for a 3070...honestly kinda wanna spend the money on one of those m1 macbook airs instead

M1's the future, but for the moment, unless you're a developer, I don't see the improvement just for playing-around.  There are way cheaper net-tops WITH fans.

with the fact that ARM was the future 30 years ago (as should have been PowerPC) and that now it is owned by nVidia i am not quite sure, especially with quantum computing being quite close nowadays. M1 will never be the future as it is an Apple-nVidia proprietary mess, RISC maybe for some applications but it is not optimal for everything to me POWER now has the best chances with it being open and all and also much better supported server side.
ARM - built to be cheap
x86 - built to be versatile
POWER - built for huge machines
still is mostly true with the exception of very high end arm stuff and arm servers.

The M1 is performing well, keeping up mid range processors with equal ram. Great, but let me throw more ram in my laptop. Not a fair fight? Says who? Future proofing is a valid concern. Here's another and important one. Anyone remember the first gen Apple Watch? Anyone? Yeah, crickets. Apple has scrubbed it from existence a little over 3 years after introduction. The M1 may have the same fate. I don't doubt Apple will make ARM work, that does not mean they will make the M1 work.

People claim Apple support is better, and in some ways, yes, they still support older machines well, you can go in and still get parts for a 7 year old Apple laptop, but once they decide a product is done, they don't just stop selling parts they pretty much lock you out of the ecosystem, try using an Ipad1 or 1st gen Ipad Mini. Asus is not going to help you fix a 5 year old laptop, much less a 7 year old laptop, but Microsoft isn't going to tell the OS to not install or update because of some arbitrary date, which is what Apple does. If you want to install win10 on a 20 year old computer you're welcome to try, the same can't be said for Apple. If they decide the M1 has too many issues (and there are quite a few) they can decide to just end it early, leaving you stuck. So what, you can still use it, right? Apple is not Windows, you can't just suck it up and keep using it like it is, Apple stops things like browser updates and with the new app security they can enforce it for side-loaded apps as well. Ever try using an out of date browser, it doesn't work well. And with ARM and the T2 chip, there's no guarantee you can install Windows or Linux on it later and keep using it.

Wait for M2.

I think it sold out in 30 seconds at my preferred retailer (Proshop.dk, recently mentioned by Linus when talking about availability on release day).
I was considering it, but since I have a G-Sync monitor already (Alienware 34") I find the path of AMD GPUs less compelling. I'll probably go with a 3080, or hold out for the possible 3080 Ti.

I don't plan on upgrading until availability becomes less of an obstacle anyways.

Sigh... no worries Sorang,  Tp4 will wait, it's too risky an item to be proxying international, prolly everyone wants to stealz it.

Well, I agree... But... so is a lot of the hype within the mech hobby, amarite?  ;D

In all seriousness, the leap in performance is somewhat overshadowed by the price hikes. This goes for both NVIDIA and AMD.

Edit: When I mention "price hikes" what I mean is the overall increase in GPU pricings when we transitioned from Pascal to Turing.

welp, got a call from the comptuer store this afternoon and they had a rtx 3070 for me. turned it down. came to my senses and paying $600 for a graphics card is still dumb.

In light of recent information on madvr playback software,  Tp4 will be holding out for 3090.

nVidia went down in price compared to last gen and AMD did not have high end cards for a while now, last gen AMD were only low to mid grade cards so yeah the high end cards are going to be more expensive (last gen competed against the 2070 from nVidia, this gen against the 3080 and 3090)

and yes hype is marketing you should never fall into it as it will make you make stupid decisions.

The prices of 30XX are at a similar level, if not higher, compared to 20XX. At least in my area.

from the original pricing (not scalper) put the 3080 at the 2070 price... but with scalper prices of course everything is inflated to all hell

The price hikes I was referring to were the overaching increase from Pascal, moving into Turing.
