does anyone have some hands on w/ a lyn whale? i'm looking to snag a reasonably nice tkl (and preferably wkl) but i'm a little hesitant if the build quality justifies the current price. are there some other fairly high quality tkl boards in the same ~1k usd price range?

excluding the u80 because i just dont like rama boards

There is mode eighty. Seems to be a pretty high quality tkl and it is under 1k usd. They have two options, in-stock and pre-order. I believe that the only difference is the color options. You can get it from their website modedesigns.
