Title: Hich pitched sustained ping Matias Tactile Pro 4
Post by: Protato_Tubby on Fri, 27 November 2020, 04:11:21
I've recently purchased a Matias Tactile Pro 4 for use in my office.No-one has complained about the noise, and I don't suspect they will. It's not the loudest thing in the office and the "thock" of the keys isn't actually too loud. What is loud and potentially quite annoying is the sustained "ping" noise that the board makes.
Is there a way to combat this?

Thanks for your help in advance

spring lubing? or better insulation in the case? ask the closest peoples to know if they even hear it? i used an M in an office for a while, it was not a silent or calm office in any way shape or form though and no one complained or even when ask told me they did not even heard it over the machines outside the office, so maybe the best way.

I haven't tried spring lubing anything before, and I will treat that as a last resort.
With regards to better case insulation, I might consider getting a desk mat and putting that under my keyboard and mouse to reduce some of the resonance with the desk.
Almost no-one else is in the office at the moment so no-one actually sits close to me right now. I was hoping to get it sorted before everyone returns from working from home. I'll ask people on the other side of the office. If they can hear it then maybe it is too loud.

From what I've seen it's a common problem with their switches, though not old Alps, or at least not as much (I have limited experience there).
You can try lubing the springs, a dab of grease on the ends can help, you can even try coating the springs but in my experience a pingy spring is a pingy spring and trying to quiet it with grease is only a bandage.

Sprit makes ALPS springs that should work and help, I don't have a ton of experience with them but so far I haven't had issues with them pinging anywhere near factory springs on the two boards I put them in to replace noisy springs.

By the way, other users are not likely to hear ping, mostly just you due to proximity and the frequency.
Good luck.
