Title: Filco Tenkeyless connect problem :/
Post by: jikman on Tue, 03 August 2010, 15:11:12
Hey guys,

I recently bought a Filco Tenkeyless. Pretty happy with it in general.

HOWEVER, when I am using Windows 7, it usually doesn't recognize it. I need to unplug the usb, wait a few moments, and plug it back in to get it to work.

What's more annoying is that it can happen in the Windows login screen, and AFTER login (so I need to repeat the unplug-usb-plug-again routine).

I experience similar problems on Arch as well, but it is less frequent, and only in the login screen (i.e., once it works for login, it works for the rest of the time)

Anyone else experience this problem? I suspect it could be a driver issue. But I believe the driver is built-in on the keyboard upon plug-n-play, so I might have a faulty keyboard :(

Note that this problem has never occurred on my other keyboards.

Any help is appreciated. Thanks!

Have you tried using the included PS/2 adapter?

Interesting.

I've experienced weird issues with my Filco connected to my MBP running OSX - screen will lock up drawing the login screen and I have to reset (and disconnect my USB hub) to 'fix' it. Works fine once I've logged in.

It doesn't happen enough to annoy me, and I've always put it down to the USB hub being a little wonky. If I get time tomorrow I'll reboot a couple of times without the hub in the loop to see what happens.

We've had a few spurious Tenkeyless boards with a faulty controller that have been traced back to an error that occurred while burning the firmware to the controller chip at the factory. Such errors rarely make it past the quality control procedures in place, but the problem you've described in the thread is indicative of the behavior the boards that have slipped by the QC exhibit. Another indication is a slowly responding CapsLock or ScrollLock LED during rapid toggling. As ripster mentioned in the thread, it would be helpful to eliminate your PC hardware as a problematic variable, but if you find this same behavior on another system then, assuming you purchased this board from EliteKeyboards, you should contact support@elitekeyboards.com  for a replacement/repair. If you purchased this board from another dealer, then I'm sure they will have no problem swapping it out or repairing it for you.

Bummer for me, I got this while I was on a trip to Taiwan from a hole-in-the-wall called "Golden Keyboards" that sells only...wait for it...keyboards.

Hopefully those damn Taiwanese didn't rip you off further by overpricing the keyboards.

On the contrary, Taiwanese pricing for the keyboards are cheaper.. as the SRP for 104-key Filcos are about 3,300-3,400 TWD while the Tenkeyless goes for about 3,100-3,200 TWD.

Sounds like the problem I had with my CST. I'm sure Irish customs must have been confused by the "LASER BOARD" that Rob Rolling sent to me.

7,000 posts, lol.

Yeah, got mine at "Golden Keyboards" in Taipei for 3100 NT...which is a little under $100 USD.
