Title: Ramaworks Kara: Polycarb plate + hotswap ?
Post by: guyga on Fri, 25 December 2020, 17:25:42
The Kara (https://ramaworks.store/products/kara) comes with a PC plate and hotswap PCB. I've read that this is a bad combo because the PC plate is too flimsy/flexible and the switches can pop out (see this reddit thread about the tofu (https://www.reddit.com/r/MechanicalKeyboards/comments/avdpv5/new_tofu_kit_from_kbdfans_with_hotswap_and/) for example). Is this somehow not a problem for the Kara?

Putting switches in a PC plate is harder then other stiffer plates. You probably have to disassemble and then put the switches in and fix when ever the switch doesn't want to go into the plate you push the plate from below so the switch clicks into place. Otherwise it just pushes the plate down because of how flexy it is.

I don't have any experience with hotswap since i only use solder though but this is my experience building with poly plates.
