Title: O-Rings interfere with LED-Switch (Brown)?
Post by: Interstellar_ on Thu, 14 January 2021, 10:33:06
Cheers,
I bought a Steelseries Apex 7 recently (pls have mercy on me), anyway I put O-rings on the keycaps. The switches are called Steelseries QX2 Brown with an built-in LED.
Now to my question, I have the impression/fear that the O-Rings might touch the LEDs and kill them over time.
Anyone experienced sth like that or will that not happen?
I just do not wanna hammer them to death, since I tend to go heavy on them while gaming.

Thanks in advance and pardon me buying sth prebuilt.  :D

If you look at that picture, the keycap (and O-ring) can only go so far as thee top of the switch housing. So it doesn't actually touch the LED.

The switch looks like this however. And the LED is raised a little.

How about if you take a picture from the side? The picture I've posted is of that switch, according to google.

It is indeed the switch, but it is missing the LED.
But yes, should have posted the picture, so here you go.

The sort of lip going over the housing is what worries me, although I think it should be fine, just want to double check.

Now put an o-ring over that stem in the middle, as low as you can go. That's the maximum the o-ring will get to. I don't think it has enough diameter to even touch it. And if it does, I don't think it will do any damage.

Think that does the trick. Its rather cramped but they should not interfere.
Thanks a lot for your help!
