How y'all feel about the new 3060 mobilei feel like the true solution is to have a tower with a proper GPU for gaming and a cheapo laptop to VNC/RDP/steamlink to it
It's ~ the same speed as a desktop 1080ti / 2070Super
The Desktop 3060 is ~36% faster than the laptop variant. SO it's within 5% of the desktop 2080 Ti
The mobile 3080 is kind of a rip-off cuz it's slower than a desktop 2080ti, yet it's +$1000-1500 vs a 3060 laptopShow Image(https://i.imgur.com/xhhF6Nz.gif)
I typically am of this mindset, and if a PC needs a small upgrade it's easy to do it, but a laptop I consider largely disposable.
depend how far is the grave, and what performance you expect, all my pc are 8+ years old and i still plan to game on them for the foreseeable future, sooo could just happen :) (oh and none have proper high end gpu, well none working)I typically am of this mindset, and if a PC needs a small upgrade it's easy to do it, but a laptop I consider largely disposable.
Here Tp4 were, planning to play his 1660ti lappy to the grave.
If I go for a laptop, I'd be shooting for the 3070 version so I can get more of a lifespan out of the machine. But for the price I end up just building a desktop, other than now the main way to get any of the new GPUs is from buying pre-builts (so far from my findings is the easier route).
from what i have read at the same power there is a very marginal leap on desktop as well, nVidia just pumped extra W into those cards to make them more capable...If I go for a laptop, I'd be shooting for the 3070 version so I can get more of a lifespan out of the machine. They're still running into the power wall problem.
The generational leap is big, but between 3060 and 3070 and 3080 is only ~10% each on mobile it seems.
So, unless they made a gigantic laptop, you really won't get your money's worth above the 3060.
Same was the case of 2xxx series, if they just power gated higher, they could've had a 1660ti nearly as fast as a mobile 2080
Unless they are still 12lb testicle frying hot plates that only get 65 mins on a full charge.you got a bit more options, but yeah pretty much still that :) this is why i say powerful desktop + cheap laptop
I always felt like gaming laptops were going against the very idea of why laptops exist in the first place.
I guess technology must've improved over the last decade though.

well no, they power gate to ~40-60watts max on most of these gaming laptops when on battery. So they get reasonable 3-5 hours even with the smallest 50whr batteries. that does not compute 50 / 60 is not 3 hours, a 50W load on a 50Whr battery will flatten it in, well, one hour so to reach 3 hours they would need to reduce the power much farther (well 50 / 3 = about 17W)

ok i may be oversimplifying as no gaming load is perfect, but still i would expect that most game would use more than a third of the available resources at all time
