Title: Blue Alps
Post by: Phaedrus2129 on Thu, 12 August 2010, 22:00:18
Do Japanese collectors go nuts over blue Alps switches, or is it just the pinks?

I think I just found one. No clue if they're real Alps or fakes until it arrives though. Might be SMKs, but for the price I paid I wouldn't mind. At the very least I could sell it here and break even, and get to try a new switch. It'd be nice if I could resell it for $400 though. :p

Anyway, I'm not going to post the buy here until it arrives, because it'll probably get ID'd as SMKs right away or something. ;) I'd prefer to be disappointed myself. Just to be clear, do SMKs have "ALPS" printed on them like real switches?

Thanks. The pictures I have are too far away/blurry to tell for sure, only thing I can make out clearly is they are Alps style sliders and they're blue.

Ok, it's SMKs. Confirmed. Ah well, at least I get to try these supposedly very good switches. It's a Chicony KB-5181 which I got for $25, plus I picked up an AT->PS/2 converter for $2.85. Depending on how I like it it might replace my Model M for my workshop rig. Slightly heavier MX blues with a softer landing sound divine and good contenders against buckling springs.

You've got yourself a damn fine switch in what strikes me as a mediocre board. The plastics are utter crap on mine, but the typing experience is very, very good.

I got a Chicony board with the old white ALPS switches, but it's in such bad shape even I wouldn't use it (It gets used for switch harvesting).
