Neoprene deforms and doesn't bounce back (compression set), so if you had a thickness specification, or compressed load points, all of that changes over time. You can't compensate for this, because you'd never get the initial thickness to FIT. Neoprene can lose 30-50%
Silicone holds up to 90% of its shape over time. You can compensate with 10% and in most cases it will be a squeeze but overall (Probably) still fit.

Yes, so after 8-10 years of using your keyboard in the exact same spot in the exact same way you'll have a problem if you want to take that particular bit of neoprene and repurpose it for something else. It will have slight divots.
