I just picked up a Drop ALT low-profile a couple weeks ago. It's my first mechanical keyboard since, oh, probably the 1980s. I've been really busy learning, reading and doing a lot of listening.
My board came with Cherry MX Blues but I did some work on it yesterday. I put in unlubed Durock T1 tactiles, clipped the stock stabilizers, lubed, and gaffer taped in lieu of Band Aids. I've been trying to train my ear to what's considered desirable in terms of sound. I don't think my cheap IKEA desk is helping much, but here's a clip:

Hi davephoto. Welcome to Geekhack.
What mechanical boards did you have in the 80s? Vintage boards are the ones I'm most interested in, myself. I own ... too many of them.
I also picked up an open box ALT for a song recently. They sure seem like great boards for what they are. I figured I would use it as a more realistic switch tester.
I'm not a tactile guy, but gaff tape sounds like a great idea (if you didn't read about it somewhere else). That's some tough stuff.
