Title: [Survey] What were your beginner experiences with mechanical keyboards like?
Post by: Speedx77 on Mon, 08 March 2021, 12:47:46
Posted this on Reddit and KeebTalk as well, but I am trying to learn more about people’s beginner experiences with mechanical keyboards. Would love if you wouldn’t mind filling out this short survey:

I haven't even done the whole LEGO board thing (though I have the parts for one lying around), so I left a few questions unanswered, but I filled out the form.

You probably fit the bill perfectly then.

I got most of the way through it but threw up my hands when Unicomp was not listed as a vendor and DT was not listed as a forum.

I'd think this survey is not as suited to old-timers like myself as it would be for young people who are just about to become enthusiasts.

When I started out using computers, whether a keyboard was mechanical or not was not something you thought about. Many keyboards just happened to be mechanical, and you just noticed that some felt nicer to use than others. And we got our first keyboards as part of a family computer, or as a Christmas present. Thus: there was no buying experience, no building experience and no expectations on a keyboard for it being "mechanical".

Didn't really consider older people filling out this survey and their experiences lol, thanks to everyone who tried filling it out!

The community's interests are just more diverse than the survey accounts for. It isn't all just about buying new parts and assembling some MX-thing with them.

The people who don't fit that mold are probably in the minority though either way.
