Title: Do I remove lube from prelubed switches?
Post by: yam on Mon, 08 March 2021, 17:02:05
I just bought some alpaca switches and wanted to do my own lubing with krytox 205g0, do I need to remove/clean the lube that has already been applied or just lube over it?

Best practice is to remove the factory oil, although IME krytox 205g0 doesn't react negatively to the factory oil on Alpacas. I've lubed over it with no issues before. Of course YMMV, & more recently I have gotten into the habit of at least wiping the oil off the stems with a tissue when I'm lubing factory oiled switches.
