Title: Would it be posible to make Model M/F compatible keytops out of resin?
Post by: andresteare on Thu, 18 March 2021, 20:20:53
Hi guys! I just watched a couple of tutorial of how to make a custom keycaps out of resin just using molds, that made me wonder if I could do the same for my Model M, I have a 122-key one so it would be awesome to have relegendable keycaps for macro keys. Will resin hold well enough for that thinness?
I don't need it to be crazy strong and withstand abuse, I just need it to hold the paper and stay hooked to the keycap

Before you suggest any EU/US store, have in mind that I live in South America, so shipping is always expensive as hell

I don't see why not. It seems physically possible, but, again, holding up to the abuse is questionable. Worth a shot if you don't have many other options.

There are resins that can hold up, they aren't under a lot of stress really, less than MX caps actually.
The bigger issue is legends, I'm not sure how transparent the stronger resins are. I don't get too deep into the resin printing side. I keep wanting one and then I remember the mess and smell and nope out of the idea.

Not sure who or where or if they still make them but they used to sell clear caps for Model Ms for this exact purpose.
