Title: Worst-Feeling Keyboard Ever
Post by: microsoft windows on Wed, 18 August 2010, 08:48:15
I have to use these low-quality, horrible things at work today. They'll probably give me arthritis.

Now I'm starting to understand why some of you all are bringing your keyboards to work...

I want to run that piece of **** over with my truck and cut it in half with my chain saw. And then I'll see if it'll blend.

Hey, it's got a LED in the capslock-cap, funky cursive legends in the lower left corner
AND 2 fruit-caps, what's the problem ? :)

Don't forget it has the curve and nearly no bezel.
I've never had to type on one of these, I think I'll just be happy.

I found the current generation Apple keyboards to be quite pleasant for a low travel keyboard. Those previous gen ones are as mushy as hell though.

Still nothing on the DEC LK-201.

I hate the new Apple keyboards, but not as much as these pieces of trash.

Im sure everyone is with me in saying that all these new touch screen keypad/boards ala iPhone/iPad/blackberry storm/new MS touch keyboard/etc are the worst feeling "keyboards" ever.

I wouldn't call them keyboards since they don't got keys.

I noticed it when I switched from a Blackberry to a Verizon Droid Incredible...I miss the feel of the 'real' keyboard of the Blackberry and I can't type anywhere near as fast. I make more typing mistakes and I can't type with two hands or do "no look" typing. Touch keyboards, in a word, suck.

I have that very keyboard in the OP and can confirm that it is, without a doubt, the worst keyboard ever.

You could start this same thread and replace that keyboard with just about any keyboard from any major manufacturer today.  At $WORK the employees prefer their 3-year old Logitech rubber dome keboards to the new OEM Dell rubber dome keyboards that come with the latest $3k workstations.  And that Apple keyboard you're showing isn't even a current model.  Lame thread.

Find yourself Swype and stop using the default keyboard app.

None of the boards mentioned so far are that bad compared to the Atari 400 membrane keyboard:

It wasn't even a touch keyboard, you had to press kinda hard. Scarred me for life as a kid!

I really can't stand the commodore 64 keyboard, particularly due to the fact you're just pushing down on springs and there's no threshold for the switch to "snap down" (constant pressure being applied to your fingers). A rubber dome would have been way better; and ironically, most likely cheaper to produce.

This is likely the most horrible possible tech for keyboard...

I never used any other early 8-bit computer than the Commodore 64.

It was a very long time ago, so I don't remember too much, but I remember that I very much disliked the Atari 520 STE in comparison to the C=64's.
The feel is largely linear, but very mushy at the bottom. The key caps were quite wide on the top, so I mistyped a lot.
The function keys were the worst, though: they were flat, flush with the top of the case and rhombus-shaped to go with the diagonal design theme of the case. You mistyped these even more.

Point taken. I will accept that a keyboard with no travel and no tactility is going to be worse than anything else...

On the POSITIVE side, it has a fairly big spacebar.

The C64 has nice keycaps (feel really great to the touch, especially the indented surface), but it's just utter trash to type on.

I seriously wonder if that thing works no matter where you press the spacebar... I'd bet it has some contact points along the place.

The Atari 400 spacebar's secret of actuation is one of the mysteries of modern computer technologies.
