Title: Intel Acquires McAfee
Post by: itlnstln on Thu, 19 August 2010, 08:39:24
Check it (http://www.engadget.com/2010/08/19/intel-acquires-mcafee-for-7-68-billion/).

Now, IIRC, our beloved moderator may have some personal interest here.  I would like to know what he thinks of the whole thing.

Maybe they'll merge it into a chip, and it might be able to run even half as fast as MSE for once...

I would think good news for McAfee employees. Overnight the stock up like 60% and McAfee gets a potentially huge competitive leg up against arch-rival Symantec.  Intel gets, well, better income than cash just sitting around and potential opportunities to address security issues in the fast growing embedded / mobile device market.

This is a significant milestone for Internet security.  There is no better partner that McAfee could have found than Intel.  They share our vision for security, they share our vision of a connected world, and working together we'll be far stronger globally and able to make a much bigger difference in people's lives.  Together we will secure the digital world.

intel has/will implement cpu level virus protection, i even think there will be a chip dedicated to just virus protection on the MB for whatever purpose. Basically i think intel trying to put mcafee onto a chip! just like how there use to be the intel 386sx (w/o the fpu) or the 386dx(w/ the fpu)
like there'll be iCore7dx version!

Virus protection on the CPU? That is just weird. And how would you go about updating it each day?

The CPU should always remain as a separate component and not integrated into anything. I hate non-standard parts.
