...you criticize someone's Superhero/Evil Villain/Star Trek/Wars/Sci-Fi-anything Halloween costume because some minutia or detail isn't right or true to the original presentation of the character. --eg the spitting image of Spock but wearing a red uniform, an otherwise perfect imitation of Data but using contractions or Wonder Woman in any sort of bodice with visible straps or bloomers without stars  or GOD FORBID (my own personal pet-peeve) the wrong colors altogether or (GASP) BLONDE!

Or ...you cheat (via strict technicalities, of course, a true geek would never cheat outright...) to score higher on geeky quizzes like this one: http://www.innergeek.us/geek-test.html

Or ...you go to a renaissance faire in modern clothing like most of the general public and feel uncomfortably out of place all day.

Or...you have played to completion and/or more than one "video" game that consisted of no actual graphics but only textual descriptions of the imaginary surroundings - which also probably means you are at least passingly familiar with the term "Frobozz Frobizzle"

Or...you find either of these jokes hilarious:  1) A horse walks into a bar; the bartender says, "Why the long face?"  2) A termite walks into a bar and says, "Where's the bar tender?"

Title: You know you're a geek when...
Post by: Voixdelion on Fri, 27 August 2010, 19:16:14
Indeed - Cleavage is not created only by the lifting, there must be a compressing force from the outside to make certain that the excess boob meets in the center as opposed to spilling off the sides of the lifting platform.  Disney-type and anime artists often mis-draw bodices without the shoulder straps and only showing a lace up center piece with a poufy peasant blouse sitting atop it, but this is structurally unsound on in three dimensions and would result in the bodice rolling up at the waist whilst boobs just went with gravity.  Even with heavy boning the ends will curl in without an anchor point on the shoulders.

Exactly.
and btw- (the redheaded batgirl is fine, as it could definitely be true to one of the newer cartoon iterations, though I haven't kept up with them - plus she's cute)  not ONE of those girls in the quasi hero costumes could have gone up against me in my WW outfit from Trashy Lingerie. I had been fascinated with the store ever since I saw the title and the window dressing.  They actually make you buy a membership or pay an entrance fee of a couple bucks just to browse but I have seen some of the designs in movie work, so maybe its like a Wax Museum touristy thing like Fredericks of Hollywood but more upscale...  Anyway, they are the retail outfit I've ever seen come close to perfection in execution of the ensemble- all the way down to the red boots with the stupid stripe. Some minor detail in the embroidery would have stepped it up, but I can't imagine what it would have cost if they had gone that far.  As it was I don't think I've ever spent so much money for so little material! I saw it on display and plunked down $500 on the spot  once I learned it would fit me (although the boots are about a size too small, I've done worse to my feet)  Really because I simply didn't have the sewing skills to create it as well as they had and they had gotten most of the details correct.  Having created some pretty impressive likenesses every year or two since I was four, I simply had to have it.  I haven't seen another since though. Perhaps it may have been created for unique purpose.   I have to find another occasion to wear it though, Halloween is a bit too cold for that outfit.  Especially since all of my circulation is restricted while wearing it...

One of these days I intend to complete my Michelle Pfieffer Catwoman suit since that is likely to be much more comfortable for running around at night in autumn.  I still like Julie Newmar's portrayal best as far as the role, but nobody purred like Eartha.

Wonder what Einstein woulda thought of Caramelldansen?

Ok.. they sing in Swedish... and that pitched voice still makes it hard for me to hear what they actually sing (if you can call that singing). But I was able to get the chorus:
Så kom och dansa med oss.
Klappa era händer.
Gör som vi gör.
Ta några steg åt vänster
lyssna och lär.
Missa inte chansen.
Nu är vi här,
med karamelldansen.

(So come and dance with us.
Clap your hands.
Do as we do.
Take some steps to the left.
Listen and learn.
Do not miss the chance.
Now we are here,
with the Caramel dance.)

It's soooo ingenious! Why didn't I think of that lyrics... :P

..

And doesn't her choreography remind very much of Hinoi Teams?

You will find a video of Karamelldansen with English lyrics on Youtube if you go and search.

For those who did not get it: Lara Croft is also wearing a small back pack. A back pack made for hiking and rock climbing would typically have a horizontal strap across the chest and not just rely on the loops.

Someone tried to post an image that's stored in a password-protected directory, so we got a login form like we would if we were trying to browse there directly (because of the method used (look up .htaccess password protection) we got that instead of a web page form). Nothing to worry about.

Post by: Konrad on Sat, 28 August 2010, 21:33:35
That's my fault. I just ripped those images off from random websites, had no clue one was password locked because it worked fine for me. My browser is configured with maximum paranoid-anonymous setttings; sometimes that prevents me from visiting sites (unless I allow exceptions), but sometimes it actually lets me view or access content that default lusers aren't "allowed" to see.  This isn't any genius "hacking" on my part, only pure lazy sloppiness on the website's part.

Image was here (http://www.marketing.fm/wp-content/2008/10/dont-panic.jpg) and should look like this

I don't.  Jersey Shore does make me a little less proud about being Italian.  I have family in New Jersey, and yes, some of them do act like that.  It's a good lesson in diversity.  There will always be trash no matter what race, creed, ethnicity, etc.  For some reason, white people in the South can't seem to figure this out, especially when they're dropping slurs from their trailer's porch.

It's one of those things.  I was creating a custom theme on my EVO, and everything was going great, but the more I got the theme to my liking, HTC's SenseUI crap kept screwing up the vibe.  In order to make some of those changes (e.g. the lock screen), I had to root and install a custom ROM.  I'm glad I did, though, there are so many more cool things I can do now (like USB tether without a $25/mo. charge).
