The Orange Boy Ergo (OBE) is a barebones ergonomic/Alice-like kit we designed to be super affordable for people who want to try out the layout without shelling out. Similar to our previous products, this will be an open FR4 sandwich board. The OBE will use a BlackPill development board in the same way other kits use ProMicros. BlackPills are a little cheaper than ProMicros currently and they use USB-C.

The plate is symmetrical and the kit features a couple of very cute cat graphics. Are those 2 facts strange to mention in the same sentence? Well, one of the cat graphics contains a characteristic that sparked a very heated debate in our Discord server and the symmetrical plate allows you to install it reversed to completely hide the artwork.

We are looking at options to produce a stacked acrylic case although nothing is set in stone right now.

Currently, we are expecting the kit price to be $40 for the group buy; the price will decrease if there is enough interest. The price will be reevaluated when it is put in stock.

The base kit includes:

In order to allow for the cheapest base kit possible there will NOT be a plate OR encoder/knob included.

FR4 Plate, encoder, and knobs will be available as add-ons.

FR4 plate expected pricing is approx $8. This is subject to change depending on cost increases.

The kit is made with being plateless in mind and aims to not look or feel like doodoo without one.

QMK powered like normal. You know the drill.

Layout options include split backspace, and split right shift which allows the use of an arrow cluster.

This was intriguing when I saw a pic on Discord and seeing the details + price I'm even more interested. It would be nice to have a less pricey ergo to keep at work.

As a layman I take it the black pill dev. board is another alternative to the pro-micro's and bit-c's we usually see? Edit* Should really read the full IC before asking a stupid question :-X

$40, a cheap price, a treeleaf's animal friend.  Treeleaf does not like animals but he thinks the cat here is very cute.

I love this. Can we get an orange version? If not, I'm in for the regular one anyway.

Nice, a great board for some experimentation.  I would be interested if you could use a vendor in the UK like prototypist?

I can see that it is not exactly like Alice though, so it might be worth to point out that it won't fit inside an Alice case, and that you'll need different keycaps for a few keys.

Absolute beginner and very hesitant on Ergos (and having to do more solder work than switches frankly), but at that price point I'd actually just grab one to experiment with, that pricing is beyond competitive

Think about it as a soldering practice kit, but one that you can actually use afterwards.

I'm also a beginner and want to try an Alice board...so definitely ordered one!
