Title: Massdrop vs Amazon
Post by: jcoffin1981 on Sun, 23 May 2021, 00:47:31
I am considering purchasing the Drop Alt keyboard.  I have made purchases from Massdrop before, but never had an issue where I needed customer service.  They do have a bunch of customization options, but a lot of items are sold so I'm not gonna use it.  For those who have used them, is there any reason that I should purchase from Massdrop instead of Amazon? Amazon has an unconditional return policy and they ship faster.  The only catch is that its approx. $20 more.

My advice,
Never buy direct from a manufacturer if you can help it.

If you have an issue they will have you send it in, it will then sit on a shelf until the one lone poor person has time to look it over and if they think there is an issue send you another, often a refurbished/used one. There is no guarantee of a new one once you send it to them. I worked for a company who was the sole importer of a product so we handled the first inspection then had to send it to the OEM, this process literally could take 6 months on those products, I have also had items come back in worse condition than they left. While I doubt 6 months on this there's still no guarantee you get a new one.

If you buy from Amazon (or a retailer in general) and have an issue you send it back and you get a brand spanking new one, still in the box, right away.

I was thinking more along the lines of replacing a defective keycap out of the box or something- I thought maybe there is some advantage going through Drop- guess not.  I will go through Amazon.  Thanks Lesliann!

I'd go with amazon just simply because of their return policy. Just knowing you can message their support and have a support claim made and accepted in under a day makes it worth it.

As time goes on though I just don't see the point of Drop anymore. I feel like when they were branded as Massdrop the groupbuy process took a bit but the price difference justified it. They had things like the mystery bags for headphones and what not too. Now it just feels so different. I don't know exactly what changed but I haven't had the need to use them in forever. Sorry for the rant.
