While I am glad to see all these new people in the mechanical keyboard market, why do all these "gamer" keyboards have a huge front lip?  I guess gamers don't use wrist rests or really type a whole lot.

the prototype was unveiled at Gamescom 2010. I don't think Zowie had a booth at Computex 2010. I like the Repeat Rate Adjustment reminds me of the Northgate Omnikey.

Really interesting time has come, the companies start to do mechanic keyboards, again. In the beginning mechanic keyboards have been created, after have passed to membrane, and now, again, mechanic go to mass. Is it recurrence?

It will be not bad, if this keypad uses MX Brown switchers. Different switchers for different people.
Now we have SS 7G or 6Gv2 with MX Black & Razer with MX Blue

Unfortunately all these new "gaming" keyboards aren't tenkeyless, I want at least see something like Microsofts X6 solution, not that I'm not allready satisfied with my Filco.

Mostly the former.. they'd rather have something intergrated or attachable.

From a gamer's perspective, Zowie's offering is FAR more interesting than Razer's at a first glace, though I doubt I'd use any of these added features over my Filco anyways. Not of a fan of the small left shift button or enter key though.

So would I, but that's not even a full wrist rest.  The Steelseries v.7 has a full wrist rest.  This and the Razer just have a large, unnecessary/unusable front lip.

We can only hope.  Maybe we could get an MS Natural 4000 with Cherry browns in the future.  That would be awesome.  I would be excited at the idea of MS and Logitech releasing mechanical keyboards.

Zowie has a couple mice, mouse pads, headset, mechanical keyboard. they are also developing a monitor with BenQ.

I think we will see a couple more mechanical keyboards by smaller companies like Zowie, Mad Catz/Saitek before a big company like Logitech or Microsoft.

If Mad Catz comes out with a 'board that is anywhere near the quality of their R.A.T mice, that would be awesome, too.  While I don't really get into the gamer stuff, seeing new mechanical keyboards coming out is always a good thing.

Keep it smooth and around 45g. and I'm in.  New would be good, too.  Right now, Cherry has things on lock down.  A little competition and innovation would be great.

Cherry has been coasting on the keyboard/keyswitch front for awhile now.  Hopefully, this influx of new mechanical keyboard models will wake them up and encourage them to be more active in this market (new keyboards, new switch designs, etc.).  I don't think it's going to happen unless there is a new switch maker that starts eating into their market. That said, I don't there will be a new switch maker unless MS or Logitech decides to make some proprietary design (unlikely), and with all of the third-party keyboards coming out, Cherry won't have much motivation to make their own product.  Then again, we are talking about Cherry who doesn't have much motivation to do much of anything.

Unlikely, yes. But the mechanical keyboard market has seen a remarkable comeback in recent years. Someone's bound to develop a product to "shake things up", if only to put themselves in the spotlight. If anyone, I'd wager on Logitech. Hell, they have the RnD funds for it, and I'm sure that they wanna get some of their business back from Razer. Why not create a cost-effective mechanical that even die-hard rubber dome fans would like? Topre-clone, anyone? *crosses fingers*

I think it would be cool to have a mechanical switch keyboard (possibly Topre) where the keys are weighted differently to create a more 'ergonomic' experience. Key Tronic has this feature and even though their keyboards are rubber dome, they're very comfortable to type on. This photo shows how the keys are weighted in a Key Tronic:

It's cooler in theory than in practice.  I have a variable-weight Topre, and the effect is very subtle.  So much so, that you don't even notice it (maybe that means they did it right). It might be more noticeable on heavier switches, but it seems that when you go lighter, those same differences aren't as apparent, at least IMO.

I think the coming years more and more consumers and suppliers will focus on improving their computer interfaces. Microsoft and/or Logitech are bound to jump in with mechanical keyboards eventually.

The only reason I have an Iphone is because of the quality of the user interface( Fit ) not because of the offered functionality(Function) or aesthetics(Form). Form Fit Function with the emphasis on Fit..... The computer era started with emphasis on Function, then there was emphasis on Form with companies like Apple and lately the emphasis starts to be where it is most needed and ultimately generates the most direct consumer  satisfaction : Fit.
That's the whole reason why you try shoes before buying. They need to Fit around your feet even though you are sure of the generic Form/Shape ( Size 11 ) or Function ( Keep feet warm and dry ). If all shoe shops in your neighborhood sell the same low quality and low price shoes you might never know anything better fitting exists. The presence of the Internet can break this fragile stalemate with sites like GH [Rampant Self Advertising On] or possibly mine.... [ Rampant Self Advertising Off ]

It's funny they use old Greek for some of the phrases (like skopos), if you're witty, you'll know that's where we get our modern word "scope" from. It means watchman.

Other phrases are a mix between Latin & Greek, which is cool (it means there's still some people who can THINK). Age of Mythology is a very flavourful game. But since Bill Gates shut down ensemble studios (Tony Goodman set up another company however), I don't think a sequel will be made. But perhaps sequel is not needed, they usually mess them up anyhow, and you prefer the original.

Age of Empires 3 definitely is a good example, I knew that game was trash; didn't even have to try it out. It used the age of mythology engine, but butchered it all, forced age of empires into a newer age -- the game is more accustomed to earlier periods. That's what makes it fun! No teutonic knights or phalanx = boring.

Not even sure if it's official but if it turns out to be then I'm guessing if they put that much effort on the RAT and people are wanting to buy a matching set KB/M, then seems like they are considering keyboard with the aesthetics of the mouse.

I don't know the translation isn't very good. when you activate Game Mode it does something to the L-Windows Key. I don't think it simply disables it but rather turns it into another function.

if you look closely at the L-Windows Key it has the Windows Logo but also says Ctrl.

yeah so I sent it to my friend over at OCN who lives in Taiwan and speaks better english than I do. he said when you activate Game Mode it turns the L-Windows Key into third Ctrl Key for games like Starcraft 2.

Hmm interesting. As i'm concerned, for over a year now i go from time to time in a computer store to search for good (new) pc games. But i never got interested, there was nothing special coming out. i was even searching in review sites for a game i like but with no find. the only game i bought was Sctarcraft 2 recently and before that year just some classic games. Somehow the new games are boring. Maybe many people feel the same.

i dont see how PC gaming is dying, if ChartTrack doesnt count digital downloads their numbers mean literally nothing. considering about 50% of games are sold digitally and its taking the market share that was hardcopies. theres also piracy which is rising apparently. and its flawed in the first place because the number of new games being bought isnt a good way to calculate the number of people playing any pc game, specially with the increase of pay to play games with new content like WoW.

its like saying music is dying cause no one buys CD's at HMV anymore.

oh its possible to press/use 7+ keys by the way

you can press 2 keys with the same finger, like that guy said. in MOHAA to be any good you need to press a strafe and lean key at the same time.
technically you could do like forward, strafe, lean, use, reload, walk, crouch, jump (w, a, q, f, r, shift, ctrl, space)
