There's no such thing as "Canadian Music". Well, I guess there's French Canadian fiddlers and Inuit "throat singers". (...in that case, I hate Canadian music too.) There are plenty of Canadian singers and rock groups - but they play "American music". (which I hate)

I do like Canadian Baroque ensembles, but they don't actually play Canadian music.

Yeah, that's pretty funny. I don't like to knock people that can perform their craft well, but homeboy was looking like he was trying to reach Nirvana during the whole piece; swaying back and forth, sitting cross-legged, etc. Unorthodox, to be sure.

I heard some baroque ensembles here... I didn't like them, the harpsichord used was so pathetic and tinny (it has to be sharp), it wasn't prominent enough.
Playing was very slow and boring.

Well, it's Avril Lavigne, and she is considered to be a Canadian singer worthy of being taken seriously.

Mind you,

Canadian artists Celine Dion and Shania Twain, along with American artist Gloria Estefan were thought worthy to pay tribute to Carole King, also present, in a performance of her hit song "You've Got a Friend".

I do like baroque, and especially renaissance. It's just hard to find people who play it well.

A piece I'd like to see played solo-harpsichord is Adriano Banchieri's "The Battle" (or la battaglia in italian). I should just learn it myself and play it properly.

Well, we already had a post in this thread showing interesting Canadian Classical musicians who did go for Baroque (specifically, Pachelbel's Canon in D), so not much more can be added.

I keep getting this group

confused with the Canadian Brass, but I see that they're not only not Canadian, they're not even American - the group is from Paris, France.

And the name of the group, ironically enough, is not based on "swinging single" in a blatant attempt to boost interest, but is instead the surname of Ward Swingle, the group's founder. Ah - he was American, even if he went to Paris to create his group.

Meh. Who cares about harpsichords? They're best used as background continuo anyway. There are plenty of good Canadian Baroque ensembles. Ever heard of Tafelmusik, Les Violons du Roy, Arion, Les Voix Baroques? There's also great Baroque music from ensembles not specifically Baroque - CBC Vancouver Orchestra (Angela Hewitt playing Bach keyboard concertos), Toronto Chamber Orchestra (Ofra Harnoy playing Vivaldi cello concertos).

lol Angela Hewitt! She doesn't know a THING about Bach! She's exactly like that block head Glenn Gould. First and foremost, all of those pieces were written for harpsichord, not piano. Two entirely different instruments.
Playing Bach on a piano is as ridiculous as playing Chopin on a Harpsichord.

Here's what the concerto *should* sound more like with a harpsichord (although again, they have it too quiet, Bach always had it as the main center piece -- evident by the violins consisting of filler notes and not the main melody):

Oh and I like how Hewitt buchers Bach by changing the volume of the notes... and also changing the tempo making it largely inconsistent. What a total piece of rag wash.

The joke is that this poll doesn't have such a list.

The forum software limits the number of choices in a poll to 10, and thus the original poll didn't work out very well - too many votes were for "other". I tried starting a second poll concentrating on what the first one showed to be more popular with people here, and that turned out to be an even bigger failure.

And then there's these melodies...

I couldn't find Time's Encomium or Khumbu Ice-Fall on YouTube. But perhaps the few listed are enough for someone to tell what this eclectic selection of music has in common.
