Title: New Blank Keys HHKB Professional 2 questions
Post by: iopl on Wed, 25 August 2010, 10:36:54
Hello

I bought Happy Hacking Professional 2 (Dark Gray) with blank keys and I just received it today and it looks to be a great keyboard, I just have some questions about it.

Note: All the keys on the keyboard work.

I can't get the power (fn + esc) to work and what does it do? Note: I disabled wake on keyboard from device manager cause I don't like the keyboard waking the computer.

I also have dip switches 1 3 5 6 on, is this a good configuration?

Thanks

I have them in front of me but they are in Japanese so I can't read everything. To be honest I am still playing around with the keyboard, I will take a closer look at the instructions.

Some of the functions, like power and volume, only work for Mac.  Shoulda got the lettered version.

The keyboard doesn't come with a ps/2 adapter? Should it? Would it be better if I plugged it into the ps/2 port? The usb hub wouldn't work then right?

I just plugged in a usb drive and a window popped up saying power exceeded. Is the usb hub only limited to printers, cameras cables etc?

Does this keyboard have any issues getting recognized by Windows 7? This one time I couldn't type in my Windows password until I unplugged and plugged in the keyboard again.

No.  It is not PS/2 compatible

It works the same as any other unpowered hub.  Mice, thumbdrives, etc. are OK, but some USB drives, and other devices that pull a lot of power from USB may not be.

The HHKB is kinda finicky after resetting DIP switches.  Always reboot and you may have to replug until you get it stable.

No.  Just unplug, set switches, re-plug, no problems.

For relatively obvious reasons, Windows won't initialize hardware unless you are logged in on the computer. However, once you have got it up the first time, it should work in future. (as long as it is plugged into the same USB port)

I thought the HHKB came with a sheet showing the alternate keymappings?   Jeez, for $270 you should get instructions.
