Title: Sony Bravia Core
Post by: tp4tissue on Sun, 04 July 2021, 03:01:37
NE1 seen it ?  Sony's new 4K premium streaming service.

Streams up to 80mbps, requires 115mbps connection.

Netflix ~20mbps (4K, 1080p much less)
Apple TV ~20mbps (4k)

Seems like it'd rival Kaleidoscope's service.

Kaleidoscope (4K box for the RICH, $6000) doesn't stream the full fat, it downloads to a local drive, and you play from there.

Now, technically UHD blurays and Kaleidoscope still have the higher bitrate, but the file sizes are pretty comparable.

Why doesn't netflix just do Netflix Premium Fat..  If whatever comes out uses say 4x the bitrate, just charge 4x as much. Surely people are ok with $40 a month netflix if it meant Full Disc quality.    That's totally reasonable.

For that price I'll just get UHD physical media. .

Sale price, $40 will buy you 2.5x 4K Discs

OR,  you can watch the Netflix library in Full Disc lvl bitrate for $40 a month.  Then all the TV shows too.  $40 is definitely worth it.

The drawback is you need a gigabit connection for multi device, this is not going to be possible as broadly in the USA, but certainly better connected countries like Korea.

It doesn't stop at Disc lvl either.  They could in theory Deliver the Entire 2 TB cinema master for viewing if someone is willing to pay, they would of course need a 5Gigabit connection WHICH is again possible, Korea has 10Gigabit consumer internet already.

so with your 40 you either get entertainment for life in the form of 2 good films, or for a month in the form of the entire Netflix library, sorry I'd take for life please

Streams up to 80mbps, requires 115mbps connection.

my question is where do those extra 35mbps go? Microsoft levels of telemetry? or overhead for bad compression?
