Title: Got a new keyboard
Post by: microsoft windows on Sun, 12 September 2010, 13:43:54
Today I picked up a Compaq MX1800 keyboard for $20. So far, I like the trackball's smootheness (Although I switched the primary and secondary buttons to make things easier). The brown Cherry switches are also very light to type on like most of the other brown Cherry keyboards I've used.

Basically, to sum it all up in a nutshell--It's a good keyboard.

It's just a generic Compaq MX1800. There's lots of pictures of them online. But I'll get some photos of the thing sometime soon.

I've always liked trackballs. I got my M5-2, a Model M with a trackball, and my IBM TrackPoint L40. This trackball's a decent one too despite its small size.

$20 for a keyboard? Are you feeling ok?

I know, you could get a whole 'nother Gateway2000 with Windows for that kind of dough ;)

I wouldn't pay $20 for a computer...what a rip off!

The only reason why I went up to $20 was because I could resell it for $30 on ebay if I had to. But I don't think I will. It's a nice keyboard. Feels almost as light as my Dell Quietkey.

How do you find that keyboard? Ever actually use it properly? Found one on EBAY kind of cheap, rubber domes, right?

The Quietkeys--You gotta be careful when buying those. Make sure you only get the kind with the white sliders. The white slider kind feels amazing, but the newer ones are awful.

The Compaq's--Just keep your eyes out on Ebay and you should ought to see some that go for about $20-$30 sometimes. They all got brown Cherry keyswitches.
