Title: Once you've gone black, you can never go back!
Post by: panda-R on Tue, 14 September 2010, 16:35:45
Is it true? I don't think I can go back to the White/Grey keyboards of the past or any keyboard in general that is not black.

What about those that have gone tenkeyless, do you have a hard time going back to a full size? i love ths space savings!

I've done it. I don't tend to look much at my keyboards when I'm using them.

Plus, I have a thing for the retro look.

Not true.  I like a variety but mostly prefer white or vintage tan/neutral colored keyboards.

Of course I love black Cherry double shot key caps.

When I go full size, I miss having a centered keyboard.
When I go tenkeyless, I miss my numpad.
I've yet to find the ultimate setup for all situations, there probably isn't one.

I personally like white/beige better. I went from a gray HP rubber dome keyboard to a white HP rubber dome keyboard and my desk now looks brighter and better.

I personally prefer all white/beige as opposed to white/beige with tan shift keys and whatever. That might change when I get a Model M, or if I can convince the guys at school to give me a surplus QuietKey they'll probably throw away.

Not having a black keyboard is how the hell I got myself into this mess.  Every day I would see the ugly Compaq rubber dome back up I was using, because my silicone board had died.  Nothing wrong with it, but I'd look at it and want to replace it, since it was only my lowly backup keyboard.  I was sick of how quick the silicone boards were dying, so I had to do research and landed myself in the mechanical jungle.  I've now spent $430 on 4 different mechanical keyboards.

I never liked the beige/white stuff and I'm annoyed that I've got a white Wii, but I'm gonna be cheap and get a skin.

That said, at work, I really didn't mind and even grew fond of my G80-8200 beige and grey.  I still prefer black, but at work, I care more about function.  Although, because I prefer black and they cost so damn much, I refused to buy a white Realforce.

There's no going back to regular full sized keyboard for me.  The closest thing would be a mechanical or capacitive with a detachable ten key.

I use a variety of gray-and-beige keyboards that are covered in dust and grime, and in some cases, printer ink.

I like em all.

A Industrial Gray IBM  Mini is a good choice for the indecisive.

I wouldn't mind a flat black keyboard (or that neat industrial gray), but I'm not willing to settle for an inferior layout or keyswitch for it.

I think it depends how diverse your setup is. Pretty much everything in mine is black or gray so a white keyboard would look really out of place.

I prefer my black M13 over a space saving M such that I sold the space saving M immediately.

I don't care what my computers look like. They're all sitting in a dumpy basement.

It doesn't matter to me.  Either color can look equally nice or ugly.  It's all in the execution.

Beige/White shows dirt, Black shows dust.

I tend to like beige/white more unless the keys are blank. Although my Model M has blank black keys with the beige casing...

I don't like black keys as much unless they are double-shot. Lasered black keys are generally hideous. White or beige keys tend to look fine lasered, dye-sublimed and double-shot.

I'd been using only black keyboards for a long time, but they were all rubber domes. Now my keyboard is white and I like it. Actually, the dirt is less visible on light colored keyboards. At least my dirt;). Most of the blacks I used/use look awful because of that shiny gray dirt.

If Unicomp doesn't start making that immediately (in USB) there is no way in hell I'm sending them a Christmas card this year.
