Title: Suddenly started hating Cherry MX Browns.
Post by: ThoughtArtist on Wed, 16 March 2022, 23:48:17
Hey people! I'm totally not a drunk high crazy **** right now! hehehehe deerrrr whoooo wowoowowwww!!! Go Ukraine! **** putin, wannabe statesman, pseudo-sophisticated embarrassment to Russia!!!!!

Anyway...

I was gaming the other night and, fuuuuck, my WASD fingers got so tired.

My hands... so ****ing tired.

I realized, it's the godddamn tactile bump. Goddamnit I hate it now. My middle-aged hands can't take it anymore. People bellttle the insignificance of the tactile bump in MX Browns, but this **** is getting in my way BIG-TIME now. I am reminded of something Chryosran said about ALL Cherry MX being linear switches, but something about "crap" being added to them to make them tactilcle or clicky. Yeah, I get it.

Just ordered 3 linear boards from MechanicalKeyboards.com.

2 MX REDS - 1 GATERON CLEAR.

Please Lord save my hands!

Have you ever used MX reds previously? MX brown is described as scratchy reds for a reason. I literally notice no difference at all in weighting between the two when typing at speed. I'm not thinking your fingers are going to feel any different with those. The "tactile" bump in browns is just enough to keep me from accidentally actuating presses when I rest my fingers on them, which happens for me with reds.

Hopefully the Gaterons will do it.

Reds and browns share the same springs.
Most Cherry tactile bumps only add about 5g, in this case it represents only an 8% increase in pressure and the more rounded or buildup prior to ramp up the less you will feel it.

Compare that with some other tactiles and clickies which have a sharp 15% increase so you feel all of it or some modded switches with closer to 40% and you can see why it's nearly a linear switch. Granted, 40% is an obnoxious amount of tactility.

i have been stanning the SP-Star Dark Magic Girl switches for the last month and before that, I had been messing around with modding an old prebuilt with some gateron browns and when I went over to my friends house she had some corsair keyboard with cherry mx browns and I thought they were reds until she took off one of the keycaps when I mentioned switches.

browns will forever be scratchy linears
