Title: AEK II plate and case files
Post by: TomahawkLabs on Mon, 04 July 2022, 22:35:42
Does anyone have a drawing or model of the Apple AEK 2 Plate and or case?

I have a plate and PCB from an AEKII whose case was badly damaged in shipping.
Do you want me to send you the plate?

I appreciate the offer, but I am looking for a digital file. I have a few AEKs at home that I want to design a PCB based off of Elmo's drop in replacement for a case I want to design. I was hoping someone had a CAD file of the case and plate to use as a starting point. I guess I will just need to invest in a pair of calipers.

Can't you derive the plate information from the KiCAD files?
I'm not super familiar with that stuff (and Elmo's PCBs aren't 100% accurate) so the caliper route it probably preferable.

It is likely possible if I was a better at either software. I are relatively new to both software. Elmo's schematic is more what I was looking for. Full size, through hole parts, etc. I figure I can start with a sandwich case while I prototype PCBs before designing it's final case. The hard part with the AEK plate is some stabilizers are flipped and the AEK uses a spacebar stabilizer via a hole in the PCB. I attempted to make a rough copy in KLE, but was unable to make the small adjustments unique to the AEK. I think a nice set of digital calipers and some time in Fusion360.
