Post by: tp4tissue on Thu, 21 July 2022, 09:37:40
THIS monitor is amazon's #33rd best seller in electronics? (the whole of electronics)

This POS monitor,   you can find $free to $10 monitors on craigslist better than this one.

wow, Tplink dominating best sellers on routers.    their hardware's fine, you get a bargain, firmware/ software is spotty.

These routers are essentially the same,  yet priced $35 apart...  :-X

same cpu/antenna chip. slightly different rgb.

This makes no sense,  why would anyone pay $114 for AC1900 router when they can get AC2900 for $124

The ac2900 is also gen 2 ac vs gen 1 ac on the 1900. Along with a much faster CPU.

it's pretty clear that the majority of consumers don't knows how to differentiate any of these routers.

Best selling laptop, $122,  celeron , N4020,   Cinebench R15, 144 multi, 78 single,

Tp4's 2016 T460 laptop,   R15,  298 multi, 122 single.  (ebay value, ~ $100)

To be fair, the uhd 600 on that celeron does have VP9 hardware decoding, so it's got much stronger Youtube performance than Tp4's hd520 .

This is somewhat reasonable, but pre_pandemic, something like this would've been $500

like, an intel 8300 cpu + 1660ti from a better brand too.

Airtags seems pretty popular, why do people need these ?

Much of that is simply money.
Remember, Amazon is worldwide, $5 to you may not be much but could be to someone else. Also on a lot of this it really doesn't matter or they have a specific reason.
Most people don't have wireless AC, much less need v2. The 11 in laptop is newer and likely seen as better than an 6(!) year old laptop and to a degree, if you consider battery age, it's not entirely stupid.

But the biggest reason is Amazon itself.
Unless you know exactly what you're after, Amazon is worse than Ebay for uninformed shoppers. Have you tried searching using generic terms to find something, it's HORRIBLE, you get a couple (and I do mean a couple) and then the rest is spammed junk that's not well related, and you know what you're after and on a bigger screen. It's way worse on a cell phone, which is how a vast majority now shop.

Stalking and tracking.
Track your kids, your spouse... Your ex...

I could totally see someone also tracking their boss who often works out of office as well.
There are some good uses, but there is also a LOT of room for misuse.

Tp4 never understood "stalking,"  it seems like wayyy too much work..  how could you possibly like someone THAT much to actuate so much labor...

You suggesting it's all lies, like their "other customers bought this with these two things that do exactly the same thing or this that's incompatible" recommendations?

At least this thread reminded me to cancel the free prime I didn't use on prime day.

They must be lying,  firetv isn't even on the map for reviewers/influencers, where most people get their indoctrinations.

While I don't doubt Amazon is stacking the listings (which they've been accused of doing in the past), they don't need influencers anymore,  they are their own influencer.

This is why they reduced the payout for reference links.
It's also why they're killing Amazon Basics, that was some shady B.S. as well, so shady that they knew the gov was going to bust them over it.

I won't mind seeing that company crash and burn.

Cow goes moo.
Sheep goes baa.
Amazon gets paid to push ****ty products that don't work.

I thought of this thread when I saw this - somewhere with worse recommendations than Amazon.

I mean who wouldn't want to buy 5x 2 man tents (https://cdn.geekhack.org/Smileys/solosmileys/laugh.gif)

Always cracks me up when they do that.

Best I saw was something like
"People who bought this soldering iron also bought these 4 other soldering irons, a roll of solder and a hairbrush"

Wait.. What?

On the other hand I also cracked up because I was shopping glue sticks and it tried offering 3d printer parts... Now, I know we use these sticks with 3d printers, but imagine someone who knows nothing about 3d printers and just looking for art supplies... "Why am I seeing this?"

amazon won't stop recommending tp4 massage wands, after he looked at them that one time. but chickened out and never bought one because he dun' want that on his purchase history, even though tp4 has legitimate shoulder problems.

Wait.. What?
 ...maybe they had only sold one of that iron and the buyer really did buy a hairbrush?

Whatever the (lack of) logic behind these recommendations I can't believe most of them actually sell anything.

it's possible, they bought 5 different irons and returned 4.

They don't have to, and they don't care. It costs nothing (well, maybe pennies) but even if they sell 0.01 percent it is well worth it.

Just mark it as a gift, then you've got a year before they assume your "friend" wants another :p
