It's an indie game that's garnering a lot of attention.
For anyone into an open world, where you can craft just about anything it's worth checking out.
I punched a cow to death, and made a hat out of it's hide.

My brother is going nuts playing it. He's trying to get me to try it.
Looks pretty cool though.
-
Looks cute, but I can see it totally hosing my productivity, and I just can't afford that right now. Maybe next year.
-
I upgraded to premium, and am playing around with it. Sort of Dwarf Fortress-esque, but with a multiplayer aspect. And a bottomless time sink.

No wai!

1. I hate you.
2. Who in their right mind would have already taken the name a_fluffy_kitten? It's a dumb name and they should change it.

Someone took whiterice too T_T

Guy has implemented a 16 bit computer. He demonstrates some binary addition.
-
Yup. Already creating somewhat involved maps with it.
-
Little bit of a threadbump, but notch (Minecraft dev) got a Das Model S Pro Silent with his new PC along with a Logitech MX518.
To further the Geekhack flamewars, he expressed dismay towards the business guys getting Macbooks.

I have been playing this game quite a bit as well. Things were going pretty well until I flooded my home with Lava......

Played a lot of this game, then I forced myself off it, have far too much work to do at the minute to be addicted to a sandbox game...

I dug too deep, too fast...
Ended up in a lake of lava and lost all my diamond tools. Kind of rage quit after that.

Rip should love this game, it's basically e-lego. This is "Oop!" for anyone who get's the reference.

This is one of the reasons you dig diagonally, not vertically.
I play on a private server where you can't die. It's pretty cool.

I ragequit last digging happily, finding my first diamonds, turning around, and seeing a creeper in my cave. Blew up, lost all the gold and diamonds I had found.

I'm setting up a Minecraft/web server with my buddy, we should have it up and running this weekend.
-
Played it for 5 minutes
Got bored
Uninstalled it
-
I came in to create a Minecraft thread.
Then I found this one.
I'm not too late to the game, got it a little over a month ago... but I thought SMP was still not finished until just recently. SO READY to find someone to play on a server with. Do I need to start one?
-
Stop by #geekhack.minecraft on freenode to chat with others who play, or join a server hosted by a forum member :D
Oh, and mind the lava-filled pyramid at z: 6500

I just created a server! Please connect to andrewzorn.dyndns.org [EDIT: WORKING NOW] and tell me if it is butter-smooth or total garbage. It's on the same computer I'm using right now.

Good luck with that; I don't know if Minecraft's netcode is terrible or not, but a 1 Mbit up connection could not even support 1 additional player when I hosted a listen server.
As for the game itself, it's pretty fun ... to a certain point. I feel that the real potential of minecraft lies within the multiplayer scene, and so far mini game modes like monster survival or neat things like that have failed to make it into the game. Ultimately, the lack of 'proper' multiplayer support is what caused me to stop playing the game, even though I bought it in alpha. It really has great potential (it's a true sandbox, multiplayer survival), but I don't know if he wants to take it in that direction, although it seems like the natural thing to do given the feel of the game as is.
-
Did/can you try mine? I'm leaving the server on with my laptop connected overnight, not that I'm doing much, but again, I'll know whether the whole thing is feasible or not as soon as someone checks it out.
Also 1mb/s up, hate it... but I hope it's enough for what seems like a trivial amount of info in Minecraft.
-
I only have 2.5Mbps up and can host multiple players without much trouble.
-
I play minecraft. Bought it back in alpha for I think only 10 dollars.
-
I just realized I never set up my server to work outside my home network, so it should work now. Please try it and tell me if it works, it would be neat to be able to play multiplayer.
Server is andrewzorn.dyndns.org
