surprised to see the initial price is lower than the REs TKL tbh.

Does a screw go through the grommet (similar to burger top mount) in the plate or is it held in just by the top and bottom compressing?

No screw. The rubber grommets fit into the plate cutouts and inserted into the top housing pin. Then when assembled, the grommets compress between the top and bottom housings.

I miss the days of underglow and side glow on boards
-
Pictures suggest that there are ledges on the bottom case for the grommets to sit on

could you take any worse pics

could you take any worse pics
if you've ever been in lz's discord you'd know they definitely can

Honestly, this just looks plain fun! I think if you're going to diffuse RGB lighting this is one great way to do it! Good luck with the IC

Not quite like tadpole. Tadpoles replace screws, literally, at least in the W1-AT. LZ's grommets are like rubber gaskets that prevent direct contact between the plate and housings. The pin is for alignment purpose only. At least that's what I felt after two LZ boards with this grommet system. Don't expect any soft typing feel. But they are enjoyable.

I wouldn't really compare grommet mount to tadpole mount but I also wouldn't call it top mount either. There's a big misconception that tadpole mount is just top mount but with tadpoles instead of screws. This is not correct. Tadpoles rest on the bottom case which means it's a form of isolated bottom mount.
The reason tadpoles go into the top case is for top-bottom case alignment and easy of assembly.

Yes, you are correct. Tadpoles rest on the bottom housing just like the LZ grommets do. It's been a while since I built the Frog..

Don't be fooled by exaggerated photos. HAHA :p

If the plate is attached to the top, it is a top mount, if it is attached to the bottom, it is a bottom mount.
If not, a sandwich?

Yes please
