Title: Model M - 2 w s x keys not registering
Post by: theoffcolour on Sun, 11 September 2022, 11:57:22
Hi all,

I have an IBM Model M 122 (p/n: 1389160) that is being converted using a "tinkerBOY IBM Terminal Keyboard (240 Degree, 5-pin DIN) to USB Converter with Soarer’s Converter Firmware". For months it's been working flawlessly; I've only run into issues when the converter was not plugged in fully. And despite no sudden damage, about a week ago the 2, w, s, and x column is non-functional. This is consistent when using other devices as well. Using hid_listen.exe I saw that the keys don't even produce a scancode. I have my suspicions that it has something to do with the converter but I don't have another that I can switch it out for. I also attempted re-flashing the Soarer's firmware onto the converter, but that failed when teensy.exe failed to recognize it. I've tried uploading a blank remap.sc file as well, but to no avail.

With this said, does anyone have an idea of how I can fix this issue? Or at least diagnose it as a converter or Keyboard problem?

Please note that everything I've tried may have been completed incorrectly, any advice helps!

It's a keyboard problem, there's no way a converter would reliably drop exactly one column as it wouldn't know it is a column.

Thanks. Any ideas on how to fix the keyboard then? It hasn't been bolt modded, but i doubt that can solve the issue. Perhaps the contacts are broken somewhere?

I'm afraid not, but I have changed the title of the thread so someone who knows about Model Ms will hopefully see it :thumb:
