Title: Belkin USB ADB adapter works great.
Post by: overdriver on Mon, 27 September 2010, 16:34:25
Hello, it's been some time ever since I post anything here. I want to contribute something new (or maybe you guys already knew it :))

I want to report back to you guys that Belkin USB ADB adapter works great on my Windows XP pc. - I think it has 5 key rollover which is good enough for me.
I got mine NIB from ebay for $12 shipped since NO ONE was interested lol

I have been hunting for Griffin iMate on ebay too long. It was almost $35 ~ $60 always so I almost gave up. yeah.. i am too cheap to pay $30+ just for adapter. then this device came up with ebay. There was no info regarding if this one works on PC. on Belkin site it says it works with win 98 & 2000 .. ouch. so i just gambled.. and the result is great!

as I connected to XP it recongnized 2 ADB ports automatically. you don't need any driver or software installed.
(It has 2 ADB ports too. I think you can use 2 ADB keyboard)
I typed every single keys of Apple extended keyboard and it WORKS with correct LED! (except extra power key nor F13 - f15 of course..)

There are still some stock in ebay and it is still cheaper than imate.($20?)

Nice!  I wondered about those but didn't gamble.  Good to know there's another option besides imate.

Hm, now I might consider an AEKII. Never worth it before, usually came out to $50+ after the adapter.

I bought that MK 96 too, but the keycaps and switches r transferred to a DSI big font, so... its 12+20 something, less than 35 USD (excluding the blue cube) for a keyboard with mixed ALPS switches =)

Thanks so much overdriver! =)
I have some keyboards that I have been wanting to actually use!
I wish I could find those Belkin ADB to USB adapters in this country, but I guess I don't mind importing them via the bay.

Thanks again, you rock! =)

I got one of these a few weeks ago NIB as well, for £10 inc. shipping.  I love how the old 'clear' Apple styling dates it... the unit's failrly chunky too, I should add.  They also made SCSI and 9-pin serial modules as well.  Imagine the happy stack one could have teetering over the desk!  Nice.

This adapter worked fine with my iBook G4 running 10.3.9, but haven't tried it with the desktop and 10.6.4 yet.

Does this adapter work with Windows 7?

+1 for the windows 7 question. I would buy an Apple Extended in a second if there were reasonably priced adapters.

It works with Windows 7. I am currently typing on an AEK using a a Belkin adapter. However, when compared to the iMate, this thing is HUGE, very HUGE.

I won't complain since it was also cheaper to get than an iMate.

Just bought a couple of these from the seller on ebay uk, for £8 each by best offer :-)

Works fine with an MK96, with three quirks...

Are the first two quirks that all ADB keyboards have?

  • Caps Lock sends the release code straight away, so anyone wanting to remap it to control (or other modifier) will be disappoint.
  • Right shift sends the same code as left shift.
  • Numpad equals isn't passed through.

Thanks.

So (probably) the only adapter related quirk is the 'keypad ='.
