Lately, I've been having trouble with my Filco Cherry Brown keyboard. When I bottom out the space bar, nothing happens, although other keys repeat normally. Holding down the space bar partially, yields normal repeating spaces. If I quickly bottom out the space bar, I sometimes receive zero spaces and sometimes get one on the way down and another on the way up. Other times, I'll get zero or one spaces. Any ideas?

Maybe the switch went bad. There's some guys here who know a lot about the brown Cherry switches who'll be able to help you here.

Like MW said, it sounds like a bad switch or bad PCB trace. Unfortunately, with Filcos, you would have to desolder the switch to open it up. If you bought it from Elitekeyboards, you can send it back, and Brian can either fix it or replace it. At the very least, you can pop the cap on the spacebar just to make sure there is nothing off with the stabilizers, or something.

I don't think it's PCB/trace because that is usually an all or nothing problem. Since this one is inconsistent, I suspect something within the switch. And yeah, like Itln says, you can't pop these open without desoldering the switch completely on plate mounted keyboards, the plate they are snapped into covers the edges of the switch "cap" so you can't get it off without desoldering and that would destroy any chances of warranty replacement. The good thing is that even if it's not under warranty it's very fixable and gives you an excuse to use a soldering iron. :)
