is this mounting style so unpopular? i look trough so many ics and gbs, no top mounts, maybe i should specify i was looking at the 65%. everything is just gasket mounted now

top mount is definitely seeing a bit of a resurgency in popularity. I expect we'll see more top mount 65% soon.
-
Top mount was the standard years ago and there was nothing wrong with it. It was even adored if you had the right mounting points making the board feel consistent. Gasket mount is just being used because, it somehow made the community think gasket -> all. Now most of the new keyboards being designed use gasket because, it will sell more compared to a top mount.
At the end of the day people do GB's to make money and want to sell much as possible.

Gasket mount is not a mounting system on it's own, it's a variation of other mounting systems.
You can put a gasket on almost every other mounting style so saying something is gasket mount tells you only that the plate is isolated, nothing about the actual mounting style.
As for group buys making money, I doubt many of them would/do turn a profit (for the original person running it) when all is said and done and if they do, I doubt the hourly pay is enough to actually worth it.

any good top mount or similar 65% keyboards you reccomend?

I absolutely adore my Mode65. It's the only board I've ever tried that I can actually feel the "Bounce". Like it's not water bed levels but you can actually feel it instead of it feeling like you're typing on concrete. I've also heard good things about CannonKeys' Brutalist series and they may be running some deals on those soon.

I'm out of the loop when I'm not looking for a board and getting more and more into building my own.

I really have to agree with the sentiment of the OP.
Sometimes, I see boards being IC or GB, and I think about buying them, then I see 'gasket-mount.' And I'm like, nope.
I want top-mount. Top-mount 70%, Top-mount 75%, Top-mount 100%.
