Title: any "floating" keyboard shells recommendation?
Post by: barooca on Sun, 20 November 2022, 04:03:40
i really like floating keyboards (aka corsair k70-like) and recently getting into custom boards.

currently im using a cheap chinese board called irok fe87, this is a quite unique board cuz you can remove the frame and make it a "floating" board. the issue is that, it's not a very good looking board, with ugly indicators and exposed screws. the chassis is not big enough for sound dampening as well.

switches: gateron yellow, keycaps: unknown pbt (same height, i dont like the shape)
(sorry for dust, havent touch it for a week)

i want something can house a generic hot swappable pcb (87/104/108, i dont like smaller layouts), with floating surface, has room for sound dampening. most importantly not too expensive, over 100usd is no-go for me. thx in advance

you gonna learn that floating keys aren't popular or liked in here. you either gonna have to get a high profile keyboard or just get a mid cheapo board like tecware phantom 87 (though the only person saying its good has invalid opinions). so if you want anything good you would have to get a tall keyboard

Most lower end use low profile because it's cheap, one less part to make.
Most users prefer taller because it's usually a better board plus it keeps the led's from shining right in your eyes.
