Title: [IC] Alas 60% Gummy o ring mounting
Post by: RMEStudio on Thu, 01 December 2022, 20:58:35
Alas
Gummy o ring friction fit mounting style

Hi, this is an interest check for my new project, Alas is a 60% keyboard with a gummy o ring friction fit mount. I design the board to look simple but I add some subtle curve in the bottom to help user to pick up and move the board easily.
The top side bezel of the keyboard both left and right will have a curve as well to make the side profile looks simple but sleek.
This board will have internal and external weight made of brass to give heft to it, the weight will sandwich the thin layer of aluminum in the middle to absorb the vibration and reverberation and eliminate unwanted hollowness.
since we make the tolerance tighter than normal friction fit board, we design the plate with cutout on the top and bottom to make the typing feel still bouncy and soft without any compromise from the tighter tolerance.

looks really nice, internal pics would be appreciated as well. only thing that gives me pause is that the plate cuts would make me a little nervous to use a plastic plate (assuming plate file was released, but even then it wouldn't be hard to measure and recreate), particularly a brittle material like acrylic. but otherwise this looks very solid :thumb:

I will make the plate file without the cut for more flexible plate material

for the internal picture I will take the proper photo then I will update it here

ahh i thought those cuts were necessary for the tighter tolerances, but if it works without them then that's awesome  :thumb:

front height is alittle tall, the USB port could be even lower, price is little close to Unikorn which is a much better buy atm

unikorn is raffle based with an immense influx of entries each drop, hard to just "buy" it, especially considering R2.2 ended a few weeks ago and there won't be more for a while...

price is more than ok for a keyboard of this type and heft, imo. any plans for the sales format? hope it's not raffle

Hello, I am a little bit concerned about the Javanese script. I think instead of for the sound a, it should be . Because the word alas has thew vowel a as the initial letter, and on its own syllable.

With my limited knowledge of the script (I only learned it in school), I'm not sure if what I just said is correct or not, you could probably check from multiple sources.

I know it's a nitpick, but I imagine when using the board, it's like having a tattoo with foreign script on your wrist, but not sure on the meaning.
Thanks

Hi, I understand your concern of the chosen character cos someone also ask me about this, but I consult with the Javanese Language expert and actually this character is the one offered by him.
