Title: G80-3000 with weird keycaps and Doubleshot Windows Key.
Post by: nads93uk on Sun, 03 October 2010, 15:03:09: Bought this keyboard on Friday, for £2 from Queensway Market, a bit dusty but hey, it was £2.

so i cleaned it up

The switches are all MX Blacks except for the spacebar which is grey, (i know im telling you something you proabably already know)

some people wanna see keycaps, im not too aware of the whole "double shot" shenanigan so im not sure if they are (including the windows key) - have a look for yourselves.

Its in the UK Layout.

Can anyone explain the weird labelling on the keys like "Hold" & "Release" & "Take Message"

This is USB. Were USB keyboards widely used back then? and any word on the wierd symbols?

The labels kind of remind me of the SmarTrex keyboard (see link in sig). Phone PBX application?

Wow man, I never knew it meant that much for you, and knowing that I only bought it for £2 must be a heartbreaker hehe, if you really want I could go to Queensway market again and check if they have any more. (^_^)

Great!! ill go again tomorrow , and if they have another keyboard, i will happily send you 2 Doubleshot Win Keys for....

1 Geekhack Cherry Key
1 Geekhack Alps Key (For my filco zero hehe)

And IF I find it, wouldnt you like the coloured control-shift and other pretty keys as well?

We got a deal? (This is if someone else hasnt bought it at the shop)

On double-shot keys the legends don't wear out, because the lettering well.. it is as thick as the key itself. It is high quality.

Unfortunately, your keycaps don't look like they were made by Cherry corp. Cherry's own double-shot keycaps are the highest-quality Cherry-compatible key caps that were ever made. The plastic is the hardest and the walls are quite thick. Many people feel that these key caps just feel better than the others .. but then, they are also quite low and therefore less wobbly.

Windows got support for USB in a service pack to Windows 95 in 1996 or 1997 if I am not mistaken. I got myself a Windows PC in early '97 which supported USB 1.1 out of the box.
I don't know when Cherry started making keyboards with the Windows keys.

And Ripster, here in the UK we frown haughtily upon Vegemite: Marmite FTW. It goes with everything. You can even get Marmite chocolate now...

Look out for G81's - take a keypuller with you so you can grab boards with double shots.

Only very late in my life I found out that flea-markets are an excellent opportunity to go keyboard foraging.... ;-)

Post by: keyb_gr on Mon, 04 October 2010, 17:24:13: Looks like this board started life as a regular UK layout G80 in 2007 (interesting to have the version with the separate control PCB come from the Czech factory) but was then equipped with keycaps for telephone applications by Access Keyboards. Maybe it was even ordered that way from Cherry, their Czech factory makes all the custom oddballs after all.

It would seem odd for a specialty board like this to be replaced after only 3 years. Either the company using it is drowning in money and got entirely new computers, or they went bust. Or something else entirely. It does seem like the telephone functions got quite a bit of use though, so I guess it's earned its money's worth. (<-- How's this for a little apostrophe and "it's" vs. "its" exercise? :D)
