Title: Keyboard Shelf
Post by: ironman31 on Tue, 05 October 2010, 19:31:09
Built this using the wood from an old futon.

The wood for the shelves I bought at Home Depot. I stained it to look better in the darker room I have.

oooh.. I like!  It's nice to have a way to have them accessible, yet reduce the dust and light they are exposed to.  Well done.

Yeah, I installed those metal strips on the inside so you can fit those removeable shelf clips in. Ill take a picture when I get home. That's an extra shelf leaning up against it.

Nice Grados.. SR325i?

Nice keyboard shelves too, although one with a closing door would help to keep the dust/debris out completely!

Yeah, I guess they're technically 325is', since they're the silver version, but it doesn't really matter.

I thought about having a door, but I was crunched for space so having a door(s) would have been more trouble than it's worth.

I would do that, but I don't have any spare keyboards to put on said shelf.

My spare keyboards live in a Victrola cabinet that belonged to my grandparents 60 years ago.

Just got to get those glass doors (you know, the kind you used to find in media cabinets) and they'll definitely stay nice and clean and non-dusty.

Back when the phonograph was my main media player, my stereo lived in a Victrola cabinet. My keyboards live in a fiberboard cabinet with all the other computer parts that are neither in storage nor in use.

I miss playing the Ramones "Rocket to Russia" LP.  I would play it on very low volume so my parents wouldn't hear it.  I was far too young to understand any of the lyrics but I pretended it was devil music, and therefore forbidden.

I had that one. I had the Ramones' first five albums on vinyl, along with about 300 other vinyl LPs and probably 50-75 45rpm singles (most with picture covers!) that I gleefully gave away when I last moved just so I didn't have to lug them halfway across the country again.

I don't miss'em at all, either. I was happy as a clam to go to CD. I was an early CD adopter: I bought the first CD player I found that was under $1000 - the Yamaha CD-X1 - while I was overseas in 1983 and after that I'd buy everything on CD unless it wasn't available.

As soon as big-ass hard drives became reasonable and processor speeds became viable, I ripped all my CDs (500+, I think) and now I play music off my computer, or on devices the size of a Zippo lighter, or my phone.

Accessibility is the key for me.

Storage is cheap these days.  I get everything digitally except classical, jazz, and other, well-recorded music.  I get those on CD and rip to FLAC unless they offer DL in FLAC already.

Sorry about that, Ironman.  Ricercar mentioned his record player and it sent me off on a tangent.  Didn't mean to de-rail your thread.  Your handiwork there resembles my DVD closet, though much more carefully done.

Well If you ever end up not using it for a very long extended period, you could sell it to me :D. I doubt I could afford it though.

I like the two handles you put on the sides of the shelf (intentional or not?) It would really make it easier to carry.

It wasn't intentional at first, we needed something to stabilize the two boards, but when we put them on we realized that they were actually quite useful.
