Title: [IC] bitt1F by SagakLabs.
Post by: juliday on Fri, 10 March 2023, 13:36:06
Greetings!
This is SagakLabs.

After releasing the "bitt101" (website (http://sagaklabs.com)), we've thought about a new yet useful input device.
This Interest Check is to have your geekhackers' insights in our new macropad "bitt1F".
(FYI, the "bitt101" is our first custom, mechanical, programmable, STEEL, multi-functional keyboard
that shares the same design principle as the "bitt1F".)
Our design is intended to give you the retro/NASA/spaceship command room feeling.
Hope you all can enjoy the experience from the 60fps OLED screen with silicon pads.

Check Points
- You can script this macropad via UART.
- You can use the rubber pads as MIDI Commands such as Transpose, NoteON/OFF. (TBD)
- You can use keys in the fashion of the Stream Deck. (TBD)

- Material = STEEL(from POSCO, South Korea)
- Coat = Sand Powder Coated.
- Dimension = 122 x 160 x 25/39 (mm)
- Height = (front) 25mm, (rear) 39mm
- Weight = about 1.5kg (TBD)
- Type Angle = 5 degrees
- Display = Round 128x128 OLED
- PCB Mount = Tray
- Switch Mount = HotSwappable
- Plate = FR4

What's in the KIT
- Housing
- Plate (TBD by IC)
- PCB for the keyboard
- PCB for the display controller/keypads
- 128x128 round OLED display (TBD)
- Convex Lens for the OLED display
- 2x4 rubber pad
- 2Ux2 stabilizer

Price Range
- 160~180 USD (TBD after the IC)

Key Dates
- March 2023 (IC)
- May 2023 (ProtoType)
- July 2023 (GB)

Vendor
- SagakLabs: International (https://sagaklabs.com)

# 1F?
Our former keyboard - bitt101 - had 32+69=101 keys. Thus 101.
And this macropad has 23+8=31=0x1F keys.
Simple and Disciplined.

# What are those glowing cubes?
They are silicon pads.
They do not only glow but also work the same as the keys.
After finalizing the OS, they can work as,
 - MIDI buttons (TBD)
 - Stream Deck like functions (TBD)
 - ordinary keys. (e.g. F1~F8)

# Why are we not using QMK/VIA
Big (good) part of our keyboards is the programmability and the OLED display that
shows informative visualizations about the keyboard itself.
We achieved this by rewriting the firmware from scratch using both cores of the RP2040.
(VIA equivalent editor is under development)

What kinda switches go in the smaller light up keys? Kinda makes me concerned if I can't just slot a usual MX switch in there because if they feel awful then that's going to be a huge deal breaker.

It is the 2x4 silicon pad (https://sagaklabs.com/products/bitt101-silicon-pad) goes into that slot.
It's the rubber pad you can sometimes see from the midi controllers.
They are 10mm high, soft, and tactile.
They aren't the MX switches, however we've had good comments about them so far.
Allow me post a video link of "bitt101" in case you want to see how it looks like.
bitt101 has the same silicon pads.
