Title: [IC] Think6.5 V3
Post by: AIRPOTTER on Mon, 03 April 2023, 13:53:48
Greetings friends! I would love to introduce Think6.5 V3, a new collaborative between Oldcat, @迷途的J, and Graystudio. It is almost four years since Think6.5 V1 was launched, and we thank everyone who has joined this amazing journey.

Think6.5 V3 was designed after oldcat moved to Miami, the city of sunshine and beaches. The new city inspired new design approaches and we set out to improve the V2 on both the exterior and interior. For example, to avoid monotonicity, we added an additional arc in the bottom piece to coordinate with the top piece.

The weight is a redesigned one that kept the soul of the V1, the gear. We designed a polished PVD stainless steel with a slope design that symbolizes sailing boats arrive at the harbor. The front badge also follows the V1 design with simple tweaks that symbolizes “G” which is another logo for the Gray Studio. The translucent inserts fills the cutouts with PC material, which will make sure the lights shine through. Further Think6.5 V3 badge will be compatible with V2 badges.

For the interior, we adopted the improved structure for Space65 III, which allows for a perfect gasket-based system with screwless bottom.

Here are some of the specifications:

1.   Case is top-quality 6063 aluminum, custom molded. Surface treatment is anodization or Electrophoresis. The weight is polished stainless steel with PVD.
2.   65% layout, 2U badge. Front height is 19.5mm. Typing angle 6.5 degrees. All optimized for an ultimate typing experience.
3.   Leaf spring + gasket mounting system
4.   Plate material: FR4 or PC. Plate file will be open sourced after the Group Buy.
5.   PCB mother-daughter board system. Mother board is 1.2mm thick with a choice between Hotswap and soldering. ESD protection, supporting QMK, VIA, and VIAL.
6.   3.5mm pad, 0.5mm ixPE switch pad, 2mm silicone sound dampening pad, and 0.5mm electric shock prevention pad. All custom designed and manufactured, included in the package.
7.   Installation manual will be posted to the Graystudio website.

Will this support split spacebar? That was what kept me from getting the v1 or the v2...

I really liked the anchor weight from the previous gen.
Will you offer some nautical themed weights in the GB ?

Are you sure about 1.2mm PCB thickness (not 1.3mm)?
Will we need another stabiliser variant for this?

There is no 1.3mm. It's either 1.6mm (normie thickness) or 1.2mm (meme thickness). You're either gonna need stabs for 1.2mm pcbs or stab shims.

I would like to get in on a new Think but I would hate to see a PCB with tons of flex cuts. Great design though. An alu plate would also be pretty nice.

As a PCB designer, I appreciate the plated through-holes on the switch poles, it is a really nice touch. The layout is very sensible too.
Really glad to see Vial being supported on more boards, it deserves more time in the spotlight.
How are you doing hotswap with 1.2mm PCB? What sockets are you using?
The badge appears to be illuminated in the renders, will it be backlit? RGB?

The blocker is very useful for those not accustomed to additional keys next to Enter.
