Title: Advice needed on ninth key on STB
Post by: SirClickAlot on Tue, 19 October 2010, 08:05:01
Progress (http://www.mrinterface.com/content/sinklist-stb-switch-try-board) so far...

Am pulling my hair on which key will be the ninth key. The first 8 are :
1. Cherry blue
2. Cherry brown
3. Cherry black
4. Cherry red
5. Cherry clear
6. Buckling spring
7. Alps clicky ( white )
8. Alps non clicky ( white )
9....?????

Got these I think about :
1. Cherry ML ( From g84-4100 )
2. Alps non clicky black ( from AT-101 )
3. Monterey blue ( coming up in several weeks )

Which one would be suited best as the ninth key on the Switch Try Board?

Regards.

So In my post above is there any reason why I can't capitalize the letter "L"?

I thought he already tried the Topre. Whoops! Wrong member, yeah I change it
to Topre! =)

@Ripster : I also thought of that, but it is on its own trip right now ;-)

I might be able to convince Topre to give me 10 of those key chains so I can make 10 STB's with topre keyswitches on them. Anybody knows how to contact them ?

Regards.

CRAP! (I need some sleep)

I totally misread this entire thread, You are making the board I was making a while ago, but I thought interest faded.
Good for you buddy! =)

Cherry blue
Cherry brown
Cherry black
Cherry clear
Cherry red
Cherry ML
ALPS clicky (white)
ALPS soft clicky (green/blue)    X
ALPS non clicky (black)
ALPS linear    X
ALPS non clicky (dampend)  X
Topre 30   X
Topre 45
Topre 55
BS M
BS F    X
Space invaders    X
Scissor switch
Average rubber dome
Monterey   X

Some keys With standard, 2-shot, and my keys on it.

The Xs were  the ones I think I decided against because they were less common and very out dated or just really, really uncommon.
But better someone else does it anyway I have my hands full.
I hope it works out well whatever you choose =)

K I need to sleep now its been 26hrs zzzzzzzzzzzz....

I think he has one Topre but never built a Frankenstein board.

I've had a Cherry MX tester board for some time now made from a $10 Black Cherry Chinese numpad.  I used it for spring/stem swapping tests.

Interesting....
Want to depart from it? *evil grin*

Today I finally cut (http://www.mrinterface.com/content/sinklist-stb-switch-try-board) the gordian knot....

It wasn't possible for the buckling spring to be removed as a switch from my model m keyboard so I had to go with something else.

Cherries and Alps only for this first iteration of the STB ( switch try board ).

Now for the difficult task of mounting them to a pcb which doesn't have pre-drilled holes for the cherries... :-p

Regards.

Gosh....

Didn't know they were such a pain to attach to a piece of PCB. I need to drill holes at exactly the right positions...

Ah well : my knowledge of keyboard switches increases every day!

I sent a letter groveling for a keychain shortly (days) before the keychain sink list started since I had never tried a Topre switch. $1.83 in postage from the US to Japan. Sent it in English, so I'm curious to see if I get a reply.

As far as contacting them, I found the address by Googling, but you seem to have it already:
