Anyone round these parts into a bit of Warhammer?
I never played the TT game cause those mini figs cost a ton of money and patience, but I love the feel and the lore of the material. Been going down rabbit holes on the WH40K wiki (the Horus Heresy story is peak,) watching Hammer and Bolter, playing the games, and kinda getting hyped for the upcoming Amazon Prime series starring Mr. Witcher himself.
This being Geekhack, there must be a few of you who are into Warhammer 40K.
If anyone does the miniatures, I'd love to see some pics of those.

Wow... nobody?
I thought I would see some posts here. I always wanted to try this, but never met anybody who would be into it already to take me on the other side ;)

Warhammer has always been something that I've appreciated a lot of the work that goes into those models, but I don't think it's something I would personally get into sadly.
Maybe one day I might just get a model and paint it if I ever get good at painting just for a little project thing.

I just never had the time or space. I play MTG at a local game store that has a pretty serious 40K group, so I've watched them play. It's always interested me, but one can only have so many hobbies before they're out of time

I like it when they roll a whole bag of dice.

Warhammer 40k seems like a fun hobby for people who connect with friends IRL and for the player who has lots of personal time to invest in a hobby.

I've always been a fan of 40k from since 3rd edition, but never had the steady hand and time to build, glue and paint an army.
I play most of the 'modern' games though - does that count?

Gladius is free on Steam during this weeks Skulls events.
Been on my wishlist for a while, so if you enjoy 4x games it can't hurt to add to your library

I know its not the same, but I just bought Talisman board game (5th edition pre-ordered) and digital one on Steam.
Hoping for nice gaming sessions:)

I did for a while. The main issue for me was the time commitment it took and the cost involved.
The main issue I had, was keeping my army updated with the meta and rule changes. By the time I had an army ready it would be obsolete because the codex had changed or a new army had come out and was now popular which made it not fun to play my army anymore. It was also difficult to find people to play with, as each game took 2/3 hours. Eventually, I found a local club that played it but the people in there were very much into the competitive side of it and would change armies as the meta rotated every month. Because I mainly enjoyed the hobby aspect of assembling and painting I ended up moving to more skirmish games (Malifaux was the one I was playing at the time) that only require 5/6 figures instead of a full army.
I now mainly play boargames though as they require way less time commitment

Did you get a chance to try Kill-team? I think its a small format 40k game so might be good with limited models.
One thing I really dislike about the new 40k is all the command point, cards and special abilities that each unit has - seems like all this extra fluff for the sake of making things artificially "epic" but that just slows down games :O

I did but when I was playing it didn't have a rulebook per se. If I remember correctly they published a new set of rules shortly after but I haven't had a chance to try it since

Have
played collected 40K on/off for 20 years. It was such a big part of my childhood I can never be truly free of it but I never have any time to make progress on my grey pile of shame, let alone play it.

Don't be so hard on oneself, there are bigger piles of unplayed steam games out there.

Hahahaha - I think I have it one step further than you, mine were all undercoated at least, so it was a lab rat army. Lucky for me, my nephew is getting into it, so now its his problem.

Tyberos is so cool. Easily the biggest Space Marine out there, short of Primarchs. Despite being the size over 10ft tall, he specializes in speed and stealth, and weilds Primarch Artifact lightning claws with dual chainsaw hand blades. He rarely speaks, and when he does, he speaks in only low whispers. He once took out an entire Nid drop pod on his own like it was no big deal.

Anyone gonna be playing Space Marines 2 on Monday/ or already playing now?

Wanted to like this game but reviewer I trust is saying it's a pretty mundane grindfest with no replay. Might have to wait and see if mechanics change

The lore is crazy good especially the Horus Heresy, but I just can't justify spending that much on miniatures either. I've tried some of these one but the steep learning curve is a bit much sometimes.
