Title: We're in the news...

All this time, I've been typing on keyboards with least-common-denominator rubber dome innards. I was peripherally aware of higher quality mechanical keyboards, but I never appreciated them until I located this absolutely epic mechanical keyboard guide thread. It's also the source of an entire forum of people at geekhack.org who are mechanical keyboard enthusiasts. These kinds of communities and obsessions, writ so large and with such obvious passion, fascinate me. They are the inspiration for what we are trying to do with Stack Overflow and the Stack Exchange network.

Props to Rip's guide :)

An aside:

... Elite Keyboards, but I can only recommend the (slightly expensive) Topre Realforce model due to the cheap pad keycap printing used on their other models.

:O

EDIT: I didn't realize the "epic guide" mentioned was the one from OCN.

I am disappoint...

Geekhack is linked though.

OCN gets a lot more hits than geekhack, sadly.

But you know, a lot of people don't pay attention to keyboards, I never did until I found the old IBM keyboards my school was throwing out and was absolutely SHOCKED at the key feel.

So we all have to start from somewhere. Some people will go about their lives without ever using anything other than a rubber dome (simply because they "don't care"). That's a fact.

Although it does make it a lot harder for me to use standard rubber dome keyboards these days whereas I wouldn't have paid much attention otherwise.

Yeah, it's painfull to use others. Our school have quite good variety of different boards and most aren't good as I thought, but then there is some quite crisp feeling like a Dell with reader... Mechanical board might have been both best and worst buy I have recently made.

Wow! Jeff Atwood  (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jeff_Atwood)of Stack Overflow (http://stackoverflow.com/)! If you don't already know about him and Joel Spolsky (http://img191.imageshack.us/img191/2694/alfq.jpg), you really should.

This is really cool.

I went in the OCN article and investigated for plagiarism, but really didn't find any ties between it and Geekhack (I searched for phrases from Geekhack in the OCN one and didn't really find anything).

But, one thing I sure am glad of is how we don't get as many hits as OCN. That way, we don't need rampaging 10-year-olds (a.k.a. mods) and our community isn't that bad.

That only applies to content hosted on their servers.

So, yes, using the images hosted at geekhack/wherever is better.

I went "Wait, what?" Was OCN's keyboard guide back-dated to be supposedly founded before this forum?

Probably lousy facts checking going on.

EDIT: Ok, noticed this is Jeff Atwood we're talking about. He's known to get facts wrong from time to time, but he does make a valid point.

Every time I bring up an issue TwoCables has a conniption fit and then the Mods delete the post.

I suggest doing that as much as possible as means of desensitization therapy...

Looks like GH got star billing in the comments of some other guy's blog (http://ask.slashdot.org/article.pl?sid=10/10/25/2222206), too:
